I believe she is referring to the book of revelation.
Been a while since I read it though.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

This is peculiar.
There are so many topics in this post that I would like to address, but I am old and I'm not sure that I have enough time....
Let's pick just one....
You laud America as a great country, (supposedly because of its people and its democratic institutions, I would think).
Yet you "hate politicians". How, exactly, do you have a representative democracy without representatives ie: politicians?
And why should you believe that "what you think", does not matter? Your vote is just as good as any Democrats vote. Your letter to your congressman is just as good as a Democrat's letter. Your chance to represent and/or influence your constituency and leaders is just as good as any Democrats...
And why all this vitriol upon your fellow citizens?
"dems", liberals and Hollywood celebrities are surely just as much Americans as are the Rush Limbaughs and Donald Trumps and NRA executives. All people who make up this mass called America, which is so "great". (In fact, the only Hollywood celebrity to live in the White House, AFAIK, was a Republican, but I digress)
"A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within" -- Ariel Durant
You are right to say Obama should not have accepted the prize. He accepted it on behalf of all Americans..... but it is obvious that half of Americans would rather destroy him and the other half of their country, rather than share in their country's honour.
This does not sound much like a Great United States of America, protecting all citizens and meeting all challenges. It does, in fact, seem very much like a country devouring itself from within.

Blaming Obama for the continued economic climate is like blaming the Flu if it killed a man with HIV?Stinson4118C wrote: I think America as a great country transcends politics. And I know that what a celebrity from Hollywood thinks about politics counts way more, especially to the Dems, than what my whole state thinks. So I try to serve locally, and laugh at the antics of the nationals. And if taking down the new messiah a few steps somehow hurts our country a little, well I think it will be stronger for it in the end. But lets remember, no matter how disenfranchised I may be...you and everyone else in the world outside this country is totally disenfranchised. What you do or don't think about Obama matters not a bit. That said, lets say we all love the man. This prize is still a political disaster for him. It makes him look all the more like the chosen one, but an empty choice. What he should have done is turned it down. He should have said, I am honored but not deserving. Give it to the opposition in Iran, or the opposition in Darfur, or the dead journalists from Chechnya or Russia. Or some poor refugee from North Korea. THEN he could reap some political capital. I think over what little time there has been, that Obama is turning out to be a glib light weight, with all the wrong instincts. Loved by the euros...sure. But a leader....no. The Dems suffer from two big problems. They love to spend and they hate to defend. They are vulnerable on their 1.5 trillion dollar deficit, and they are vulnerable every time the president says Afghanistan is the good war, end then backs off on supporting his own chosen generals when they ask for his help. Sooner or later people will decide that Obama owns the situation that exists, that he can no longer blame it on Bush. If unemployment is still at 10% next summer, he's going to lose his congress. Both houses.
Stinson4118C.....wow....WOW...WOW, You and the other two on here that agree with you just can't wait for a black man to fail so that you can hang him up by the proverbial rafters eh...
I don't think I have ever read anything more sad and disappointing on this site.
WOW....
Re: Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize?????
Yeah, that's similar to what I was thinking IABD but then I realize the man is not acting alone so how can he be blamed for not getting something done. It is like Stephen Harper who doesn't do all the talking or decisions about the issues. Do you notice that Mr. Baird is always in the spotlight spouting the responses to media? I find it funny because he talks to the reporter like he's in "the House" and his nostrils seem to be flaring or something. I guess it is because he has the most important file and he is constantly dealing with the opposition.
IABD, I changed my earlier post because I didn't want to hurt anyone who is already hurting. I hope no one read it. Sometimes I'd like to post a topic but it's alittle tricky.

Whatever it takes to help you be "regular" in the mornings.
I'd hate to disrupt your routine.
I wouldn't want to see you hurt by punching in your own face when you get stressed when things get out of the ordinary.

It never occurs to a leftist that one of their pet minorities is capable of being judged by the same standards as white males. Deep down, they believe that blacks can’t cut it, and need Affirmative Action to have decent odds at achieving. Leftists project that attitude onto those who oppose them politically, and assume that we must make special allowances for the Untermenschen, just like they do.
I was born an Irish Catholic to a Barbadian mother, who married an Irish protestant, who converted for love, to be a Catholic . My grandmother, on the father’s side, is Jewish. I have the grand slam of “put upon” groups in my family.
I don’t have a “hard on” for Obama because he’s black...in fact he’s not black. I have a BIG problem with his policies and the Democrat agenda. I certainly can’t speak for Stinson..BUT, I can see nothing in what he has said that warrants a suggestion of racial bias.
Birdy, do you have a time frame in mind of when Obama owns “this point forward”?

It's about to get "strained" in here. However, don't ANYONE take it personally. It's just a discussion.
1.There is no credibility behind your statement given the fact that no one here knows who you are really. You choose to remain anonymous (and there is nothing wrong with that). HOWEVER, You could be a 600 pound albino female from Afghanistan!?!?!
2. If you mother was truly from Barbados...you'd refer to her as "a Bagion women"
...anyone can hide behind a computer and spout out anything they want. I'm not saying you are...but it is challenging to verify the facts. I'm just saying is all.
I said "proverbial rafters"...not real ones. Everyone calm down.
....wut???

vs.
9 months...*sigh* I wish the right would just let the man do his job. Bush spent 157 days @ the golf course during his first year in office...there IS a difference.
Listen, if you have the answers...take the stage please...but Obama won't have the answers either. His agenda is already drawn up by Robert Zoellick, president of the Bilderberg Group. Look into it. Bilderberg Group will decide when this recession is over and then Obama can start owning "from this point forward".
AND THAT'S A FACT JAKE
Jake...are you kidding me man? Only a rightist would say that. That's such a disconnected statement man and I think you have the intellect to see past that. If an Olive coloured looking guy like me can't break into the real good jobs in this industry...it's doubly hard and RARE for a brown or black feller. If Obama really was for "change" why would he appoint the same clowns who screwed up the banking system to continue running the banking system? If he was against war why is he yapping about taking on Iran?
Bush was supported by oil interests and Wall Street. Obama is supported by pharma corp and Wall Street. What is the big "change" for Joe Lunchbox? Even higher taxes and a rapidly diminishing $.

It is interesting that Bill O'Reilly (Talking Points on Fox News) said that Obama getting the prize, deserved or not, is "good for America".
Whether it was tongue in cheek, I don't know.... but he promptly got pilloried by his right-wing audience.

Re: Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize?????
One of the very very best things about having elected Obama, an "african american" as we like to use the term today, is that we never have to do it again, just because of his/her skin color. I think it's telling that IABD thinks we're all waiting for the black man to fail so we can lynch him figuratively. So criticism is out for the next 7 years? We can't just wish he would fail cuz he's a Dem? ( stupid but traditional thinking that that would be.) Maybe we can see him failing becuase he's glib? Maybe we can see potential ( like the Nobel Committee) that he might fail because some of his policies are possibly misguided? That's not okay? I think the exchange between Jake and IABD is telling too. Jake says he's such and such a mixture of religions and races, as if that should matter at all......and IABD immediately challenges him that it can't be so, as if he was fibbing about something that matters, that if he really was mixed race/religion, his opinions would count for more?
I've said on here before, I voted for Bush twice. Three times if you count his Dad. I voted for Bill once. I even voted for Jimmy back in the day. In my opinion, if you vote you get to bitch. I think Obama is a light weight. I think he's super popular with a bunch of people who don't get to vote, who aren't citizens even, and I think it's odd. Yes he is the anti Bush. For many that was reason enough to elect him. But now that he's leading...it's not enough to be the anti Bush. Now he has to lead. NOw he has to explain what he's up to in Afghanistan, where your countrymen are dying too. Is his hesitation making things better there? I don't think so. Am I allowed to have an opinion on that, or do the kids from Kansas just have to go over there and die because we dare not critique a black liberal. What about his idiot bail out of General Motors, and his giving of Chrysler to the Italians. Can I criticize that? What about his hiding in the White House on the whole gays in the military thing, after he promised to lead on that issue? WHat about health care? Will he ever say what his plan is? What he wants? Or will he just lay low and see what passes? What about the economy? He promised this huge 850 billion dollar stimulus would bring down unemployment. It hasn't. Does he own that eventually? What about his 1.5 trillion dollar deficit? Is that ALL George? Obama winning the Peace prize was a purely political move by a small group of Norwegian (liberals? Socialists? Idiots?) who are using what ought to be a real honor to promote their particular political agenda. Obama won that as an individual, not because he represented America. Plenty of far far more deserving people could have been picked. People like Desmund Tutu, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa. Instead Obama got it for not being George Bush. Again. So lets be clear. Yes Obama is NOT George Bush. Bush is no longer president. But the longer Obama goes on being the not george, the more likely a new George ( or Reagan ) will emerge. Like I said, watch the mid term elections.

1. Americans did not elect Obama because of his skin colour this time. He was elected because he was pretty much the most palatable of the presented lot.Stinson4118C wrote:One of the very very best things about having elected Obama, an "african american" as we like to use the term today, is that we never have to do it again, just because of his/her skin color.

2. Afghanistan has been put on the back burner by America for six years. Another month or two to make a decision should not be such a big deal. (I'm betting that eventually, he adds troops, by the way... but we will see)
3. Criticize away.... but I didn't realize Chrysler was his to give?????
The bailout of GM was a knee-jerk thing so that America could retain some sense of competition in its Auto industry. The jury on that will be out forever... because the enormous cost has to be weighed against the retained jobs and the "we still have a competitive auto industry" national feeling.
4. I think he is pretty clear on the gays in the military thing. But the best leaders in the world cannot implement the best policiies in the world, if their workers drag their feet on actually getting it done. (Thats not only true for government, but business as well)...
5. His leadership on the healthcare issue may not have implemented anything yet, but has gone a long way to get people debating and examining the issues. MUCH FARTHER along in that direction than has happened in years.
And thats what a good leader does.... he does not necessarily drive HIS agenda.... A good leader gets things implemented when he finally gets the people around him to believe that it was THEIR idea.
6. The stimulus is another issue where the jury will be out forever. The unemployment rate will peak at....what??? No matter what it peaks at, what would it have peaked at WITHOUT the stimulus spending???? All kinds of economists will give you all kinds of answers, and there is NO WAY to really know....
7. There may certainly be reason the second-guess the Nobel committee. But that does not appear to be what what is happening in America. The criticism is all about the receiver, not the giver. Sort of like blaming the victim... "Didn't you see that Nobel truck coming while you were starting to cross at the diplomatic crosswalk?"
