Goes to show how random it seems to be. I have aviation college (on par with a degree is what I'm told), more TT, more turbine and more PIC but I can't seem to get a phone call/email. Oh well, at least I know I'm in the ball park. Good luck to those that have been called!

Thanks for the responses guys. I ended up getting the confirmation date just over a week after hearing from them the first time. Also told that info regarding flights, what to bring etc etc will be in a later email. Time to get to work I guess!
Got the call... Groundschool on the 10th. A big thanks to all the PM's that helped guide me through this whole ordeal. Good luck to everyone and happy landings.
It's nice to read some positive for the young pilots on the Air Canada forum.
Was kind of tired to read about the retired who are desperatly trying to hang on...
AC, Jazz, Westjet, Transat, Porter, Sky Regional and probably more are now in the hiring mode, let's Hope it's just a start and we will see a nice wave.
He is retired now but he has been spotted at the training center... nobody seems to know for sure what his involvement is with hiring. I asked that same question to DL and he was non-committal in his answer as to BC. He is/was very respected in his opinion and decisions.
Does an internal rec from an Air Canada pilot mean nothing anymore? I know a senior pilot there and he says AC doesn't use internal recs for an interview? I have 4000 hrs mostly airline time but unfortunately no turbine/turprop PIC. Still no call.
Anything you can add to your profile has value. Although I've been given the impression that you will not be called JUST because you have a reference. Remember that hiring has just started and even though they are interviewing 5 for every position, that still means only about 200 calls so far.
There are a LOT of people out there with references, turbine pic, 704/705, glass, military, college/university, bilingual, large aircraft experience. I'm sure AC has 1000's of these people sorted and is going through the list from top to bottom. Just have to be patient and wait till HR gets to wherever you fit in on that list.
In the section that has you tick off how many "large multi-turboprob/jet PIC, FO" and "small multi PIC, FO" hours, if you have +1000hr of PC12 captain time, which is your only turbine command, are you basically SOL being able to tick off that you actually have captain time, since its not multi?

There was a pilot hired during the last spree that only had PC12 time and nothing else. Very young guy who some people have estimated could be number 1 for at least 5 years. Keep applying and hope for the best.
Interviewing is done by a matrix! The ones I can think of are:
1. Sex
2. French / Bilingual
3. Minority
4. Total Time to a certain amount. I do not think it is that high.
5. Glass Time
6. Jet Time
7. Military Time
8. University / College Time
9. Multi Time
10. Heavy Time
11. I think age (Meaning they hire old and young in each coarse to spread out the retiring numbers per year)
12. Internal reference letters
13. luck and more
My class had Beech 99 drivers up to 767 Captains in it. Guys from 24 years old to 45 and above. I think it is about how many boxes you can check off in the matrix and luck.
A low time native girl with college who can speak french with PC 12 time will score better than a male 767 Captain who has no other language or university. When you fill out the application you can really see the matrix they are looking for. It is not pilots setting up the interviews it is some HR company using a matrix computer.

That very statement shows how messed up things are in our society today. What happened to hiring the most qualified person? The fact there is no longer a simulator evaluation shows what emphasis they place on flying ability....
So you are saying that because she's a girl she's less qualified and can't fly?
It's not WWII anymore where you have to put on your white scarf and 'man handle the beast' through the air. So far only 2 out of 35 hires are girls, and there is no indication that being a minority has any benefit. Higher education shows motivation, an ability to study, adapt and learn, and is partially an indicator of IQ. Bilingualism will alow you to communicate well with all crew and the customers. AC is not hiring 250 hour people. A well referenced 5000 hour pilot should be able to rotate an aiplane on takeoff and flare for landing. 767 time will be valued much higher than PC12 but don't discount the above.
Every hiring wave, people rant and rave about this apparent hoard of disabled native girls that fly piston singles getting jobs before them. It's just not reality. The last few courses have included the caucasian male Airbus captains and military 4 engine types.
Don't worry, the only problems in society are insecurity, biggotry and prejudice. Good luck.
I am not saying a girl cannot fly!! I am using the matrix to show if you check off allot of boxes you have a better chance of getting a call for an interview. In the example I gave, the PC 12 pilot checks off more boxes than the 767 pilot. I think total time is scored the same over a certain amount.
I did not mean to imply anything. Also on a side note before you start your interview you fill out a survey asking if you fit into any minority groups such as race, sex and disabilities.
It should be illegal to ask if someone is a minority or what sex they are on an application that is also a case of discrimination. education I can see being asked as it shows other initiative to learn, but physical traits should have not bearing on who gets hired.
Do people ever get hired after being PFO'd? A friend got rejected last round and was wondering if its worth a shot this time.
Also what does PFO stand for?
