You think TC is hard to deal with...
<Warning - Humor interspersed with logic>

LOL! First lesson, women don't think like guys do. Not sure how they think but it's not like us.

Can you get her to go along for a nice morning hop over to Havelock for a pancake breakfast on the weekend (OK, wait until the summer)? Toss in a bit of networking (socializing) with more of the Venus species while you're there?

What about defining what flying is about? Seriously, you like to fly because it's fun but can you translate that into her perspective? What makes it fun for her, going somewhere? A romantic sunrise from the air? Sightseeing over some of the local sights? Picnic at an airport somewhere? A flying trip to visit the mother in law (what will some guys do to make a good impression)?

Like I suggested in another post, I know nothing about this, I got drawn into this thing by someone who was already hooked LOL!

Disclaimer: Ladies, this is all in fun don't anyone take it the wrong way, y'hear.

Getting my wife to go in an airplane and spend time with other pilots.... ahhh... that'd be a dream

I started this conversation with... "You know I'm thinking about buying another motorcycle..."

Which eventually led into her fearing for my safety, and that buying a 150 would keep me quiet and relatively safer.

Yeah you see it's all the matter of perspective. When I wanted to buy a motorcycle the only issue my wife had was that she wanted to have more ride time. That was probably since she owned a scooter when she was a teen. I ended up not buying a bike since Toronto drivers (more that 50% roughly) are "mentally deficient" and I would not feel safe sharing the road with them on a bike.

My issue in explaining flying safety is that, my wife does not understand all the things flying yet. All she knows is that she hates airlines and the "scary" loss of luggage. I am still working on my licence and can't get her involved that much when she has to observe things from the ground.

EDIT: light just came on as I was writing this, I can get her to do an intro/fam flight. That might do....

I started actively looking at the A/C because the prices are right in the good ol' US and it will take some time before that "gem" appears. Now back to the topic.

I am not too familiar with the home builds other than seeing a few RVs. Given that money spend for the initial time builder is going to be limited to some old bird. Cessna 152/172 fits the bill for spare parts and everything else.
I had a thread before asking a similar info on a bug smasher and so far, if I find a C-152 that would do the trick (price/performance). Believe or not i sat in one in CYOO and had the better seat travel than C-150 (early models) and the foot well where rudder pedals are is a bit lower and gave me a better seating config. I am 6'4 so the leg room is important. If i find something interesting like champ, citabria or something with the stick I will post back the experience.

Cheers,

Dan

Interesting - almost the exact opposite from me. I used to ride a bike when I was in the UK, never got one over here as they are really a toy (in southern england I could commute 12 months on a bike) and to me the roads are too striaght. Current wife has thoroughly nixed the getting a bike idea - personal experience with a bad accident, and we spend way too much time in the summer at race tracks watching bike racers get carted off to Hospital! So I'm on a bike ban until at least my girls have left home and are not as reliant on me as they are now...

However, they bought me an intro lesson for Father's Day a few years back, and then could not really say no when I decided to go for it! Several time she encouraged me to keep going when I got to a tough patch.

Homebuilt - not for me. Being in Engineering, I would not fly one unless I built it myself, and I know I do not have the skills now for that, or the time to learn them properly. My QA system would wear any keeness off! So saving the money for a 152/172 or Cherokee, if I could only find one that is not rediculously priced.

Yes, well, maybe that too. Here's Eric and I doing a runway inspection:

Rotten kid jumped the start but the legendary torque of the RC51
reeled him in!

PS You can't see it in that video, but I'm wearing my red thong.

RC51 is a cool bike, I'm a sucker for V-twins. Ride with them alot at track days with my Aprilia Tuono.

I'm partial to my V4's myself.

Like the replacement 2024 skins on the ex-carbon Akrapovics?

It's amazing how many pilots ride motorcycles, sail boats, etc.

Yes the V-4's make a lot of power, Honda's are very nice although thats an older bike, very cool though. Aprilia have moved to V-4's now. V-twins like CS and mine are as he would say museum pieces these days. Sailing is another passion of mine I spent a total of 7 years offshore in a Tartan 44 but when I got back into flying I got rid of the boat.
