The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Airline pilot pay is generally based on how many bums sit behind you that you keep alive. The more lives you protect the more pay you earn.
Re: Why now is the time to go to encore
Valid point but what about a regional guy who does 5 legs and flies 250+ passengers in a single day and then does that for 4 days?
DEI = Didn’t Earn It
Re: Why now is the time to go to encore
It's still just a 50 to 75 seater just like the crew flying a 1900 doing multiple sectors earn less because there are less people in the plane and so on down to 703 ops with 9 pax.Inverted2 wrote:Valid point but what about a regional guy who does 5 legs and flies 250+ passengers in a single day and then does that for 4 days?

Rudder,
I think the WJPA has done far more for this industry than the Jazz MEC. Remember the Global Solutions and IRC stuff. I was there-it would have been the biggest thing of our careers because we`d all be at AC instead of wondering what will happen in 2020. Sadly, the Jazz MEC blew it because they were still holding on to their mistaken belief that they should get folded into the AC seniority list. All we got out of it was a short email saying that they couldn`t come to an agreement. Talk about a failure!
Perhaps the pay sucks at Encore, but at least our group can figure out how to work together without being whip sawed. How many other companies have been able to pass a common list with 90% support from the mainline and 99% support from the regional.
Let`s end this dick measuring contest. BTW, I`m from Zaire;)

That is a gross oversimplification of a very complicated process and also does not reflect the actual reasons that the parties failed to reach an agreement.Bede wrote:

Absent the Jazz high water mark, the mean, median and mode for the regional industry in Canada would be equivalent to the US. Jazz is also the only pilot group that has been able to merge seniority lists (several times) of previously separate companies without arbitration or acrimony.
Jazz pilots occupy many positions in the ALPA Canada, ALPA, and IFALPA elected, professional and technical committee structure. Given their size and scope of operations, Jazz pilots demonstrate a disproportionate influence on many areas affecting piloting globally. Several Jazz pilots have been acknowledged for their personal contributions within these bodies with the highest awards from their peers.
Any suggestion that Jazz pilots have not added value to the profession are specious.
Re: Why now is the time to go to encore
Rudder,
I never said the Jazz MEC was useless, I just said we succeeded where ACPA and ALPA failed. When I was at Jazz, I got tired of being told I was lowering the bar by those who earned more than me. WTF- I`m just a guy trying to feed my family. Now I`m getting tired of hearing I`m lowering the bar from some Jazz guy who was willing to fly jets at a fraction of the wage of a AC guy.
No one is harping on the world`s lowest wage 757 driver. No one is on this forum reminding you that you started this race and now you`re losing. We`ve all moved on- I think you should too.

Re: Why now is the time to go to encore
Lowest wage 757 driver? Get your facts straight. Jazz paid the pilot group as a whole using the Skyservice 757 pay rate (higher than Morningstar and higher than Cargojet as well). Personally I would have preferred that the Jazz pilots that flew the 757 got to keep all of the $$ but that was not the direction that was taken by the group. Status pay was never intended to apply to 37-217 seats and as a result for a couple of years the Jazz pilots were paid a 'blended rate' over and above the regular status pay for aircraft up to 90 seats. Perhaps you guys should have looked at the same model. Maybe you did. We now know the outcome that a select few will get the extra $$. If that is the preference of the WJ pilot group then there is nothing wrong with that. This debate is not about WJ mainline pay.Bede wrote:Rudder,

Jazz has the highest pay rates for the aircraft flown in North America - that is a fact circa 2014. There is nothing to be embarrassed about. The hardest task now is to prevent losing ground in pilot compensation.
Go ahead and defend Encore. It is nothing more than a low water mark for the profession in Canada based on all available pay information. I applaud the integrated list but like most things in life apparently that perquisite is not free of charge.
Good luck flying the heavy iron.
