Re "daddy is very high up at AC" .... So what? Being a Webster trophy finalist, top in class and Jazz CRJ F/O should count for something. I would have her on my crew anytime....

I'm not arguing the talent/skills/knowledge/experience of this said individual. I'm sure this person is far better pilot then most. My point was more so directed at the weight of a family member within the company that seems to give candidates an edge.

Most people deny it but you are telling me that if a candidate walks into interview, and the board discovers their father/mother is high up figure at air canada, that they will not instantaneously view this individual in a more positive manner? Of course they will. Even if it is just subconsciously, these people will already be put into a positive light without ever having done anything. Same time, if parent has been a good employee, chances are it will follow down the line. But it's not always the case....

I am NOT questioning the persons experience. I was merely stating a pretty useless point at the end of the day.

In actual fact the opposite has been occurring with family members getting PFO'd and many more cannot get interviews. No advantage here. You make it on your own merits.

No call for the medical yet but I know for sure they called one of my references.

Honest question guys, does the current state of things not make you just slightly nervous about leaving your current place of employment for AC? I'd be approaching things with great trepidation.

Absolutely. The risk of leaving a decent 704 PIC gig earning a good living with lots of time off and good schedule scares the crap out of me...especially for the uncertainty at AC. Having said that, when one has been working for 15 years to get a shot, its a decision that isn't taken lightly. Time will tell what happens and as someone else alluded to in a different thread, one has to take all of the factors into consideration and make the best choice with the information at hand. Good luck to all those in similar situations.

Join AC with confidence. We are in contract negots. It is like this every time but we are still here after 75 years. All these rumours are just that..unsubstantiated rumours..AC is by far the best gig in this country if you want to be an international airline pilot. We are hiring more pilots than all others combined. Don't miss this opportunity...

My references were called last week, haven't heard anything more.

I know a lot of newbies, 12 or so in the last 6 months. Many are great friends of mine and they all have nothing but good things to say about working for AC, this goes with the more senior guys and gals I know as well. I'd be happy and honoured to join them

I just got the email inviting me for an interview the other day and I've been reading through this thread, trying to get a feel for what happens on interview day, but I was wondering if anybody had the name of the psych and cog tests so I can look them up and see what I'm in for. i interviewed end of march. no call.

and why is it a good thing if they call your references before the medical? i heard the opposite, that's it's not a good thing. i've also heard rumours of the next GS being canceled because so many sim instructors are booking off and now line indoc captains are giving it up in protest. so now things are getting backed up with training.

Hi,

My son recently interviewed at Air Canada and has now been called for a medical examination. Why is this not done at the time of the interview? Doing a medical is part of the normal process of getting hiring before they select who they want, no? He said that it is a good sign but I told him not to get too excited. Am I wrong? I no nothing of the aviation business. He is going to kill me for posting if he finds out.

Probably checking for drugs, diabetes, blood cell count, and any other abnormalities which they are hoping not to see so that you're health won't be a problem in the near future.

So I would assume..
