STL, the waterfall is across from "yellow bluff" near the barge camp at the intersection of the Taku and Tulsequah, the next one is 10 miles away, the glacier at the head of the Tulsequah. Both taken in an Otter. The alpine lakes picture was actually taken earlier in the day with a King Air. We were trying to sneak into Tombstone on the way back from Chapman Lake, but it was a bit rough and we chickened out. I know it is difficult for you helicopter types to comprehend pictures taken more than 200 miles apart from each other in the same day

Thanks for keeping an ear out for those covers. Someone may as well be using them. I'll be home again about the time someone might be looking. The peak in berzerkers photos is the same one at the back of one of mine posted above.

Hi Adam,

All of the above.

There's a misconception about digital photography, that is: if you use programs like Adobe Photoshop or Light Room, you're "playing" with the shots... In ALL photography, forever, colour or black and white, "processing" has been a HUGE factor in achieving good results. Ansel Adams for example was a darkroom master, which was as big a factor in his outstanding success as his composition or subjects.

How much you "process" is another thing entirely. With the digital processing, you have SO MANY more options than you did on film, slide or B&W, so you can go to extremes. For me, I never edit content, ie. taking things out of, or inserting things into shots. I try very hard to frame a picture properly the first time, although without 20 lenses to play with (only three right now, soon to be four), this can be difficult depending on subject matter. I will process colour and light however, or remove dust spots etc, and cropping of course.

Unless you shoot in RAW format - which I only do in challenging light conditions, or for something that will be printed say 40in X 60in - the camera will apply a "program," or "White Balance" to your shots. This is simply a manufacturer's setting for colour, light levels, saturation, contrast etc. In RAW, this doesn't happen, you see what the camera "sees," so the unprocessed shots look greyish and dull - YOU apply the the processing. RAW stores vastly more info as it's not compressed as a Jpeg is. So the latitude to "play" is much greater.

When shooting Jpegs, the camera is applying the program, in my case, the Nikon D3 has probably the most advanced "Auto White Balance" ever made, so 90% of the time, I shoot in Jpeg, on Auto White balance in either aperture priority, or for action, shutter priority. This camera FAR out peforms my old Canon 1D Mk II is this department. Ok, in every department...

So, there's a really long answer for a really short question!

Never thought I'd use the term "flight deck" on an "intermediate" helicopter, but I think this qualifies... The EC 130 is one hell of a ship, smooth, and very powerful. Not to mention the vis... And that's 24,000hrs attached to the cyclic. Thanks ..

Umm, aren't you sitting on the wrong side of that thing? That is a neat looking helo (my kids used to call them hop-i-copters). How come that 500 has pollen sacs like a bee? Tanks? Lunch kit?

I noticed that too. Didn't think twice because that's standard equiptment on gliders for turn coordination ... I guess you questioning it makes me think twice if that actually is a yaw string or not.

It's Yaw String. Standard equipment on Eurocopter machines. $3 million ship, comes with yarn... But, it works like a charm. I far prefer them to turn/bank indicators.

Quite few machines have you sitting on the left, we do in the 500, some Astar's, the EC 130, 120, etc. It's nice for long lining etc, and you can fit an extra passenger, but there are other issues with it.

The pods on the 500 are baggage space. We don't run those at our company, we use the Pod which hangs under, and holds a lot more.

One of the strips I used to tow gliders off of in New Zealand. Was a blast! Only runway I've flown with 2 slopes; lateral and long. Can you spot the runway? It was popular because of its know location as a wave producer. Unfortunatly there is zero population and it's only farm land. In fact the drive to the airfield consisted of off roading through numerous cow and sheep pastures opening and closing gates .... the runway its self is a sheep pasture.

Fortunatly for this runway, if you had an engine failure immediatly on take off it wasn't so bad because you had 500ft to play with again.

I've read (in "Stick and Rudder") that the only flight instrument that the wright brothers used was a piece of string hanging off a rod sticking out in front of the plane. It was used as an angle of attack indicator. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me!
