Am I the only one around here who always seems to get a message like that whenever I finally come around to paying the fee? I remember last time I had to pay over the phone too for the same reason. That's the third time in a row now that the system is unavailable for maintenance when I'm trying to pay.Transact will be unavailable Saturday, January 31st from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm EST for routine maintenance.

See CD's post above. Just to be clear complexintentions, it took me 2 minutes to find the same thing separately so it should have been a snap for you. I'm a little disappointed...complexintentions wrote:Just to be clear Rockie, this is a specific question from me, to you, for me, not for anyone else, and not general. If you could resist the urge to jump on a soapbox and restrict your answer to A. once a year orB. twice a year that would be most appreciated! Seeing as that was all I ever asked and wanted to know. Stick THAT up your "big picture" fixation

Re: Pay your medical fees
I would love to hear a loop of CVR with Rockie and Complex flying together.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Re: Pay your medical fees
They have clearly lost control of these fees. The fact I was sent a bill for 6 years of fees, proves that.
I don't owe for the six years, but I was not given the option of disputing the charges. Just pay or we will take it from your tax return or take away your licence.
If they simply added a box for the doctor to check "$55 fee collected" Then the Dr. could mail in the medical forms with the fee. This would be so much easier. Some Dr.s would not want to do it. Well, that's easy, they would no longer be approved to conduct TC medicals.
The way it is now, the fee collected is being used to pay for the collection of the fee.

Re: Pay your medical fees
Again, I suggest TC takes the $55 from the CAME's fee.
MSP pays around $50/patient to a Doctor for a visit. CAMEs when conducting a Cat. 1/2/3 medical do not (well they shouldn't be) charge MSP for a patient visit as they are already getting paid by the patient.
My last renewal in January, cost me $140. The CAME is getting $90 more than he would visiting a standard MSP patient. I think its only fair that he/she should then take from their fee the $55, and send it off to TC with the usual forms.
And consider that $140 is seen by some as a cheap renewal, I've heard of CAMEs charging $200 or more for renewals. Make them fork over the $55, and the problem is solved, as long as they do not get greedy and raise their fees...

Re: Pay your medical fees
They started looking during the years before the US allowed a 5 year medical for private pilots under 40. Back then your Canadian medical was only valid for 2 years outside of Canada. Beyond 2 years, your medical was invalid in the US, and hence so was your license. I flew into Arlington, WA for their fly-in one year at year 3 on my medical once. The customs person looked at it and said "hey, aren't medicals only good for two years?" I quickly replied that Canadian medicals were good for 5 if you were under 40, and didn't say anything more. He looked at me for a moment, then smiled, gave me my paperwork back and sent me on my way. I suspect if there was an FAA person standing within earshot I may have been in more trouble...complexintentions wrote:Since when does Customs check the validity date of your aviation medical, anyway? lol For that matter, when do they even look at your pilot's license? It's not remotely their mandate.
Re: Pay your medical fees
Don't know where you've been crossing, but my license is checked every time I go to the states! My last trip was to Osh last year and the customs guys in Duluth, a nice pleasant guy mind you, went through my license pretty thoroughly, including the medical dates. Having to explain two licenses because of conflicting medical dates is not something that should have to be done PERIOD! It still boggles my mind how many people make excuses (just carry two licenses, what's the big deal?) for incompetence at the government levels...complexintentions wrote:Since when does Customs check the validity date of your aviation medical, anyway? lol For that matter, when do they even look at your pilot's license? Re: Pay your medical fees
Compared to the many things the government is truly incompetent at this doesn't even register. But don't worry, your existence will only be made miserable by this particular travesty until your next medical.
