Why is it that everyone compairs our industry to the automotive industry? Its a simple fact that if the automotive industry was governed the same way the aviation industry is, the cost of parts would increase and the wages would have to decrease. Another problem is young people today are actually acepting jobs for such low wages. My dad use to tell me that theres alwasy someone willing to do the job quicker and better than you. Which is very hard to swallow. I started doing sheetmetal in this industry 5 years ago and was forced to find a job after 9-11. I started at 13.00cdn woking on twin otters. I now make $20.00 working on Sikorsky S61. The most i'll ever make is 35.00/hr However My brother who has his M1, M2 and A&P licence makes 55.00/hr flight pay plus 350.00/day. There is money to be made out there you just have to find it.

Personally, I don't have a problem with my AME wage, 6 years ago I started fresh out of school at 13.50 an hour and now I'm currently making 30//hr, and usually end up making over 70,000 a year after overtime and road trips.

Currently I am trying to hire an AME M1 and I am paying from $23.00 to $30.00 per hour depending on experience and yet I can't find any AME with enough experience to wipe his own nose. The industry wages are low but you as the AME have controle of what you get paid and if you can't get what you demand you either have the wrong experience(Air CAnada) or you plain just SUCK and should change profesions. The market in Canada foe AME's is in a critical stage and you will be able to get paid what you are worth. I pay a AME that I bring in on a part time bases $45.00 per hour. I would hire him full time as he is woth it gets the job done right and fast. (he does not wish full time employment)
In short if you want more money prove your worth it. If I had one AME that I didn't have to pick up after all the time and finish his work so that the aircraft can fly, I would hire them right away and pay top dollar.

BAH! Put the cards on the table, I have a list an arms length long of M1 AMEs that have piles of experience and would die for a job that pays what you do....as long as it is not in the middle of butt-f*** nowhere (cause lets face it....less money and a nicer atmosphere is a lot more attractive than wrenching M1s in the middle of nowhere) . Nobody likes to be stuck up north on a diet of pop and chips surrounded by one-toothed northern princesses. Feel free to PM me your company's info, but I suspect that if you are struggling to find a good M1 at that wage it is due to your location.cessnasucks wrote:Currently I am trying to hire an AME M1 and I am paying from $23.00 to $30.00 per hour depending on experience and yet I can't find any AME with enough experience to wipe his own nose. Or perhaps you get sent north. Like stated, I won't go north of where I am for $30/hr., but if you are willing to pay me the $45/hr. you pay the other dude, I am all yours (unless of course you are in NW Ont., which I suspect you are). Like you said, I have controlcessnasucks wrote:The industry wages are low but you as the AME have controle of what you get paid and if you can't get what you demand you either have the wrong experience(Air CAnada) or you plain just SUCK and should change profesions.
45 a/hr for an M1?...Hell, my arm has list of M2 guys that would love to work for that wage!
But like TCAS says, if you are in BFN, offereing 30 a/hr for fulltime is not going raise much interest from experienced guys, if you are in the sticks. The 45 bucks just might. Bush operators have to offer a much better deal than what is available in civilization. NOt that 30 bucks is a gold mine in any sense either.

As for controlling wages, I would have to say thats an overly optimistic statement. Too many still out there ready to undercut.
Good luck in you're efforts.

Wages.
A little off track, but who would should make more, overhaul AME's or line maintenance AME's or should they be equal. Leave out of the equation overtime and location. Personally I believe that troubleshooting skills are worth a little more over inspection and overhaul.
Thanks
