Our Trip on Westjet..??
Hello All & Merry Christmas...
My wife & I are flying with Westjet. When I booked the trip, I didn't pay for the seat selection(I'm not cheap, don't care where I sit..!). Does the Airline just automatically assign seats when I booked it, then if I decide to pay to change them, I can...
How can I find out where the Airline seated us..

Re: Our Trip on Westjet..??
Unless you pay in advance the seats are assigned automatically when you check in. You have the option to change the assignment or pay for the upgraded seats. You can check in 24 hours in advance so be sure to do it as soon as the time allows to beat the rush and get decent seats.
Merry Christmas

Re: Our Trip on Westjet..??
24 hours before your flight go to Westjet.com and click Check In.
Re: Our Trip on Westjet..??
If you want to make sure you sit together, just give WJ a call, select existing bookings, and they can help you out. My understanding is that if your booking is made on the same PNR code (6 digit reservation code), the system will assign seats beside each other.

Re: Our Trip on Westjet..??
Be aware though, according to WJ, they have no obligation to seat you next to your family members, even if they are children, unless you pay for seat selection. Even on the same booking/PNR.
Re: Our Trip on Westjet..??
That's about the dumbest thing I heard all day. No obligation maybe, but common sense dictates unless your stand by.Donald wrote:Be aware though, according to WJ, they have no obligation to seat you next to your family members, even if they are children, unless you pay for seat selection. He said he had a confirmed booking .

Someones anti-Westjet, and yes I already have a reservation. It's when I check what seats are available, I am wanting to know where they have seated us..( seats assigned when I booked it...)Beach 200 wrote:That's about the dumbest thing I heard all day. Re: Our Trip on Westjet..??
Your seats are not assigned until you check in, maximum 24 hours before the flight. If you look at the seat selection tool now only those seats for which passengers have paid to select them will show as occupied.
Re: Our Trip on Westjet..??
You can insult me all you want, but it's a true story.
Confirmed seats on wj, talking to sales person on wj 1-800 line,
And they insisted that the only way to ensure that mom, dad and kids
would sit together was by paying for seat selection. At the time I called
BS on it, but the sales pitch continued anyway.

So therefore, if all the aisles and windows were paid for, then it's completely possible for mom, dad and the kids to be assigned seats not together.Duffman wrote:Your seats are not assigned until you check in, maximum 24 hours before the flight. I guess I'm not just a crazy anti-wj poster afterall.

WestJet does a few things to minimize the possibility of this...Donald wrote:So therefore, if all the aisles and windows were paid for, then it's completely possible for mom, dad and the kids to be assigned seats not together.Duffman wrote:Your seats are not assigned until you check in, maximum 24 hours before the flight. 1) Rows of seats are blocked from advance selection for the airport staff to use on the day of operation to accommodate for these and other types of situations
2) the day prior to departure, groups of 3 (or more) traveling on the same PNR are pre-assigned seats to address these issues.
Should the pre-seat purchase be so much that there aren't enough available seats to pre-assign groups of 3 or more, then there will typically be some maneuvering done by the departure station (including use of the blocked seats) to try and sort this out before the Guest ever gets to the airport and has an issue, which becomes a big drain on resources to try and deal with. It's not perfect, but probably eliminates 95% of the issues.
As noted, at 24 hours prior to departure, Guests are free to checkin on line. If a seat hasn't been pre-assigned, the system will randomly select a seat based on a number for factors incl. weight and balance, etc... If you don't like the seat that has been assigned, then you can then look through the seat map and select an available seat (if there are any).

Don't worry about Donald, he is Anti-everything and about the most negative poster I have ever seen on any forum. His posting history is staggering in that not a single one takes a positive tone. He is a professional troll, and not a very good one at that.
One thing that will really stick in his craw is that his beloved Air Canada does the exact same thing. It is a simple supply and demand metric. If the seats are available together when you check in (at the counter or online) you will likely be together. If they aren't, well you won't unless someone is willing to switch.
Enjoy your trip!

Re: Our Trip on Westjet..??
BL you seem to have in interesting posting history in that you attack and belittle anyone you disagree with. You must be a pleasant chap to hang out with and share an airplane with.
Anyway, thank you for making my point and assisting the OP.
By the way, you may wish to look up the definition of troll. I'm more of an antagonizing prick.
Mikeecho thanks for the info, seems wj has a good setup to mitigate this scenario.
