Re: Flight time limitations
Very funny and smart answer !
Nothing more constructive ?
I'm asking because I noticed my electronic log does count sim as flight and it's added toward my flight time limitation.

If your logbook program is counting sim time as flight time then something is wrong. I'm not sure which program you're using but perhaps when you added the simulator to the program you didn't tell the program that it was a simulator and not an aircraft. That can cause this problem.

Re: Flight time limitations
My company seems to think it does. I always thought that "Flight" time involved "Flying", not just pretending to fly with a fancy computer. But whatever, that's their loss. I'm not even close to the flight time limits anyway.

Re: Flight time limitations
It's an interesting question. One could argue that time spent in a simulator should (assuming it doesn't) count towards flight time limits as it is typically more exhausting than a typical day line flying

Re: Flight time limitations
Personally I feel that the spirit of the law should require that it counts. I mean, the whole idea of a simulator is to be as realistic an experience as possible. Whatever quality you possess that allows you to fly well, that is presumably temporarily depleted by the time you've flown to your limit, must be similarly depleted after time in a simulator, with the added stress that comes from being evaluated and having emergencies, etc. We KNOW that some pilots are more freaked out about the possibility of being fired, or yelled at, or looking like a retard than they are even by the possibility of being killed!
The letter of the law, however, is different and I suspect that it does not count. Transport Canada doesn't care if you're tired or sick or not, really, they just want to make sure that if you have an accident, they won't bear any accountability.
Transport Canada is an organization that exists for the sole purpose of protecting itself from liability. Along the lines of what the Japanese would call a "Chindogu".

Re: Flight time limitations
Review the definition for flight time and it refers to aircraft, then look at definition of aircraft. Flight and duty time limitations do not apply to simulators, some companies set their own limitations when crews train in them ie travel time, training times because we all start closing our eyes after lunch or trying to get normal hours for ground and simulator if able.
Actually a few TC inspectors do care.

Sorry. It was thoughtless of me to insult your profession, and I apologize. I know some inspectors who are stand-up guys too. I guess I mean "Transport Canada" as in "the man" who makes all the rules, not the pilots who work for them.
