Exactly. KBA can't afford another hull loss right now so if people want to go there, it's going to cost them.

I'm also assuming that a reduced number of experienced floating sea ice capts is a factor in the risk analysis. By my count there are only about 5-6 capts left there who could, almost without fail, get that job done reliably and without banging up the machine or skis.

And we both know most of these individuals won't be around for much longer. You'd think the company would make more of an effort to have their wealth of sea-ice experience passed onto younger generations. It would be a real shame to have all that knowledge go out the door when they retire. KBA pilots would have to learn how to do it all over again, that is if they even continue with the sea ice work at all.
