Navajo chief pilot
Just come back to Canada after years in Africa, have been offered a position of chief pilot/ ops manager for a start up on East Coast, only problem is I have no idea of what to ask for as a reasonable salary, don't want to knock these guys out of the water by asking for something ridiculous but don't want to be taken for a ride either, any ideas would be highly appreciated.
Re: Navajo chief pilot
Depends, but I would say nothing less than 65K, pay to go up as more planes/pilots added
Re: Navajo chief pilot
Try to get salary from the get go. They need your name on the application as CP and it can literally take years to get the OC. Meanwhile you are tied up with promises of "soon" while you get dusty. I would say $3000 a month minimum. And yes, been there. Best of luck.
Re: Navajo chief pilot
$36,000 a year salary? you've got to be kidding!!!!! All the pilots I know wouldn't get out of bed in the morning for that.
Re: Navajo chief pilot
Sounds like if you've been offered the job already you can ask for any money you want. I personally have never been offered a job and then the topic of salary comes up after thefact but...anything can happen.

Re: Navajo chief pilot
This is ridiculously low!! Most Navajo Captains make at least 10K more a year than that without all the headaches and responsibility attached to the CP position.Phlyer wrote:Try to get salary from the get go. I realize you stated it was a start up...and having no idea of fleet size...I would suggest 5K a month would be a good starting SALARY (emphasis on the salary part). You will have MANY added duties as CP and should be paid a minimum of 60K a year to start...anything less would be embarrassing IMO.
If they have a fleet of PA31s (5 or more) id suggest you should go for 65-70K a year. The more birds & pilots you are responsible for, the higher the salary should be...again, IMO.
My 1st CP job was in 1998 with a fleet of 13 aircraft ranging from C185, PA31, and DHC3. I started at 48K a year back then...so around 60-65K by todays money.
Good luck with the job! I hope you land it, at a rate you are comfortable with.
Fly safe,
FTB

Re: Navajo chief pilot
Ya ask for 80K, tons of work on the upfront helping them get going. I would put a figure on additional aircraft or per number of employees you oversee on top of starting salary. eg: $5000 extra per year per plane over the starting one or $1500 per pilot etc.
Re: Navajo chief pilot
Thanks, kind of been thinking along the lines of extra for more aircraft/crew, will be operating four various types initially.

Re: Navajo chief pilot
Are the types in the Navajo category or Boeing 777 category?
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Ha ha
Would you believe 185/206 PA23 variety.
It can work with a little inspiration and help.

Easy killer. I was referring to the waiting period before they get the OC.kilpicki wrote:$36,000 a year salary? you've got to be kidding!!!!! All the pilots I know wouldn't get out of bed in the morning for that.
Re: Navajo chief pilot
And yes, if he can get way more then all the power to him.
