Sad thing is once they find out who is calling all these threats in, likely the same person... all they will get is a slap on the wrist.

I hope they have to pay reparations to WestJet for lost revenue and fuel.

I saw on tv (so it's automatically true) that kids could use the internet to make an untraceable phone call from their home computers. It was in the context of fake bomb call to get out of an exam at school or something like that.

Another threat made tonight against WS, a YVR-YYZ flight. Diverted to YYC, landed safely on 35L and stowed away on taxiway U.... Someone needs more than a swift kick in the jewels for all this.

As taxpayers we spend billions of dollars on Transport Canada Security to prevent bombs and nail clippers from getting on board aircraft. Is TC admitting that these billions of dollars spent are wasted money if they believe some idiot on the phone has somehow circumvented their wonderful security system and actually got a bomb on board?

And hence, the ignorance of what security means. The level of security should reflect the threat. Canada is a very peaceful nation with an extremely low incidence of terror attacks on airliners. We don't need an "El Al" level of security as it would be an extreme waste of money. Israel has its own problems with threats to airliners and they use a corresponding (much) higher level of security.

If someone called El Al and told them there was a bomb on board, they would respond "no there isn't". In Canada where the threat is extremely low and the security level is applied accordingly, we must take each threat more seriously.

In the end, this is a very rare occurrence and I'm confident they will find the idiot responsible. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

This is what has driven me back to AVCANADA - What the hell is going on here?
As of today another threat. Is it a motive to disrupt WestJet? Perhaps the talk of unionizing has gone to an extreme level?

Not sure how they will figure out who is doing this. If they do i hope they get life in jail. This is nothing short of a terrorism.

This may be a silly question but in the event of a situation like this or any emergency landing fees are normally waived correct?
