so how much do you think your worth? all the employers out there who dont have guts to tell you what they will offer you but advertise jobs with salary to be discussed or compensation on experiance lets get real here.

If you want a class 3 instructor say what you are willing to pay 25 to $30.000 a year seems reasonable what do you think ? unless you dont work in the industry costermonger!

Rising operating costs + pilot surplus = you're not going to get paid what you'd like.

Yeah, it sucks, but that's the reality right now. If flight schools were honest, nobody would be suprised to find out that they've spent 50k to net the same income as the guy who took your order at the drive through, but that sort of talk is bad for business.

Unless you've got a way to get rid of half the pilots in this country or cut the price of oil in half, I don't see a quick way out of the current situation.

If you feel like paying $20G for a PPL then paying all instructors $30G a year would be great.

After you pay the instructor $20/hr you still have:

Fuel
Oil
Maintenance (which isn't cheap on old planes)
Gas
Insurance
Engine Overhaul reserve
Wear and tear from ignorant pilots
Hangar Rent
Rampie's wages
Lease/Bank payments
Office Space Rental
Power/Phone/Natural Gas Bills

Before a flight school makes ANY money on an airplane and instructor it's gotta fly a ton of hours. If the industry could afford to pay everyone what they were worth it would be a happy place. But reality is it can't. All anyone can do is show up do their job and expect to get paid what they've agreed to get paid.

If you can't pay your bills because you aren't making any money then either pick up a part time job on the side of just get out of the game all together. There is not very many people in this industry who can be very sympathetic with people not making enough money to fly. Its your initiation/hazing, pay your dues and if you make it you'll be ok.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

Actually, this industry is not unique in doing that. Look in the newspaper, you'll see lots of jobs advertised with "salary comensurate with experience." Unless it's a government position, almost nobody posts the salary. Suck it up.

Change your avatar.

B. People in Europe DO pay 50k for a PPL.

So it looks like the flights schools have cut prices so they can increase sales and get the cheap labour.... So cry us a river about other "expenses."

C. Finally they don't tell you a Price because they know the next guy is willing to work for less... Why give pilot A + B a level footing, if B wants to pay for a PPC and Work for free over A.. Well guess who's gonna get hired 90%.
