Road trip job hunt,info please

Post by PC12NG »

Hi

I plan on doing a road trip to Winnipeg,or Calgary,Edmonton and knock on doors for work,I applied to many companies and get no response,I don't mind to drive out and shake hands if it will increase my chances to get a job,I do notice on several job post it's mention NO PHONE CALLS.

My experience

FAA ATPL MEL
Canadian ATPL inst group 1
2800h TT
2600h PIC
1100 turbine PIC C208,PC12
101h twin,

For someone with my low twin hours,is it worth to knock on a BE200 operator door and hope for a FO job or better to focus on PA31 PIC jobs?I don't care what I fly,i just want a job.

Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

Is such a road trip something that a 2800hr pilot does? I thought that was a 200hr tactic.

GyvAir,I applied to 55 companies single and twin operators,I got 6 replies back in the last 2 months,"sorry we don't hire"i respect that, and appreciate that they reply,I currently drive a combine for a farmer to pay the bills,I seriously need to make a plan to get a job,for that reason i am willing to go knock on doors.I think the down side for me is,LOW TWIN TIME!!!!

I know WestWind Aviation in Saskatoon has been looking for King Air 200 Captains lately, you probably meet their requirements. Worth a shot. Alan Jones is the chief pilot there, great guy.

Ornge is hiring (can't remember if it's for Captain or FO though) with your PC-12 experience that should put you in. And maybe try putting this in the employment section where it might get more responses.

I guess it can't hurt. It just strikes me as a little unusual.

Gyvair, I share your sentiments, but the market can be a funny one sometimes. I am curious as to how recent the bulk of the flight time is? There has to be something we are missing. Those are generally fairly good times to score a job in the 703/704 world.

I also hate to hit on the same note as I previously have, but don't underestimate the selling factor of your physical resume. A job can be lost with that one simple document if it's too confusing or long or convoluted to read and get the pertinent info in 45 seconds. Send a PM to XSBank, he can help you out!

You are definitely short of multi time. A lot of C208 drivers seem to have problems advancing, so many tend to go for PA31 driver of BE20 copilot upgrading to captain jobs in order to get multi time. Your TT time is obviously not the issue. As cdnpilot77 mentioned, check your resume and cover letter writing skills. On the plus side, your have a bunch of turbine PIC making you more attractive to employers over 500-1000 hr instructors, for example.

How is your network? Do you know anyone who flies for companies that could land you a job with a recommend? Looking at your qualifications, I assume you most likely came from Wasaya? Did you not get upgraded to the B1900? How recent is your experience/job gap? I see you have a group 1 so you must have done an instrument rating flight test recently in hopes to stand out. Give Voyageur a call. I heard they recently picked up a C208 captain to fly their RJ.

Reflect on yourself and figure out whats going on, since there is something we don't know about. Georgian would definitely pick you up as FO. Heck, anyone with an ATPL and good pic time should generally be able to land a job in today's industry, unless something bad happened to you or your reputation. Good luck! Ps, you are wasting your time going on a road trip beyond west of Saskatoon right now...

I dropped in to see him when I was doing my road trip. Unannounced. He took the time to meet and was great to talk to. I didn't meet their requirements but he said to send him an email when I eventually do. Nice guy and I'm sure he'd be happy to chat.

Not with 101 Multi hours. I've heard of people with 3000+ hours on a PC12 getting told to come back with more multi.

I have had a call from EVAS and GGN with less than 100. Maybe they got a PFO for other reasons.

G-sky in Fort Mac seems to have recurring ads for pilots - with 208 time, I would try them for sure. Otherwise I wouldn't waste time in rest of Alberta and BC.
