I don't know.....
Harmony offers a better plane, hot meals(which are accually really good), hot towel service, comp. wine with dinner, it's like flying was in the 80's.
I think you guys might have jumped into the wrong pool on this one, and now you are going to be in over your head.

Well that stuff ain't free...Plus WJ has a large network to draw from whereas HMY has YYZ and YVR. I wouldn't count us out just yet...Obbie wrote:I don't know.....

WestJet to Hawaii .... no surprise, but I wonder. Will the avg yield on a one-class service be sufficient ? I believe that was one of the reasons Aloha pulled out. As well, there's lots of capacity in the market.
I had thought they might announce YLW-HNL, but the tall foreheads think differently I guess.
Time will tell.

If this is progress, how come we could send people to the moon 35 years ago and now we can't ?
Westjet has significant feed from many flights into these Hawaii flights with direct flights from YLW, YXS, YYC, YEG, and YYZ and one-stop flights through all those cities from pretty much every other city in the system.
Obbie I flew Harmony last summer to Hawaii and I thought the service was exceptional (with the exception of having to post-clear US customs in Hawaii) but Westjet is a well established carrier with a network to boot. It's going to be interesting to watch the reaction of Harmony to Westjet's launch because all of the comparisons I've done and read (in other forums) have Westjet at least half the price of AC and below Harmony.

I have actually done runs frequently with Harmony and Westjet on the Vancouver - Toronto Pearson and back runs. Occasionally, Harmony is cheapest (round $220 with taxes, surcharges, etc), but I generally prefer a Westjet flight for more comfort (can't beat leather seats, and if I am lucky, 34" seat pitch).CanadaEH wrote:Westjet has significant feed from many flights into these Hawaii flights with direct flights from YLW, YXS, YYC, YEG, and YYZ and one-stop flights through all those cities from pretty much every other city in the system.

I think WJ will do very well with Hawaii because of the established market you have with existing customers, mainly western ones. Although I wouldn't rule out some easterners going to Hawaii and Vegas etc on WJ. There's also the fact that people are flying again and so far supply and demand have a good relationship. But I also see a company that seems to be going in a direction it claimed it didn't have to just a few short years ago. Canadaeh makes reference to a feed system, kinda like a hub and spoke, I guess. I think that the more WJ expands, the more it will resemble AC and other major world carriers. So which model is it? On most routes within Canada, prices seem to be in line with AC if not more expensive. I don't know about you, but I see a company changing towards something it did not want to be. I think we will see a much different company in a couple of years. But Clive will insist it's still not the AC model.

That's quite true and will certainly help keep flights full.
In another forum I've seen discussion of WS to Ireland/UK. If this pans out, does this make WS look more like AC ?
I have no particular axe to grind so I wish them well.

AQ filled thier 700, the yield was the sh#ts, you need more seats at the market price to make a nice profit, but it will be profitable with a solid tour company selling seats. AQ had to leave it cuase there were better routes to focus on while in Ch 11. It will be a battle though... They are up against two solid carriers all ready well established on those routes, with one of them having 40% (and growing) part of the business focused on the market, YYC, YYJ and YLW this winter
"Ground 1120 at checkpoint.... 3! ahh sorry we should have got you at 1....." "1120 hold short, hold short where are you going?"
I'm here don't worry.....
I wonder if WJ will bring their own bag'handler and ramp rats has in YQU?
Of course no WJ employee in Hawaii, only other airlines doing the dirty work (with a change of name tag) for them.
Great news stocks's falling again.....time to buy hey!!!
