PPL ground school KIT - how to buy from Europe??
Hi,
I will be doing my PPL in Vancouver soon but I'd like to start studying beforehand so that I'll save time (and hopefully money as well) later.
I am currently based in UK and it's not easy to find the books I need over here nether to find somebody willing to ship them over the Atlantic...
Any ideas?
Here's the list of books I need:
- From the ground up
- From the ground up - workbook
- . PPL Written Exam Preparation
- Flight Training Manual (I think I can get this online)
- Flight Training Notes
- Single Engine POH
- Ruler
- Protractor
- Paper E6B Computer
Thanks very much for any idea on where to find these books.

POH for various Cessna 172s can be found online:
http://www.gaceflyingclub.com/Member%20 ... chable.pdf
https://www.flyingd.net/documents/N739E ... OH_000.pdf
Just search for the POH for the plane you'll be doing your training in.
I wouldn't worry too much about getting From the Ground Up just now. You can just use free resources like this:

If you want to get a head start, I'd suggest getting the Harvs Air online course (pilottraining.ca) and doing it before you come. That way you'll arrive, basically be ready to write the exam and then focus on flying. I used it for PPL in addition to FTGU and it was a good tool.

pilottraining.ca is great. However you should just check to make sure your school will allow you to do online groundschool.Black_Tusk wrote:If you want to get a head start, I'd suggest getting the Harvs Air online course (pilottraining.ca) and doing it before you come. How can any school not allow you to do an approved ground school?

Because they want to squeeze more money out of you? Because they have an integrated program? I haven't come across any schools that won't let you do the online ground school myself, but it's worth checking.trey kule wrote:How can any school not allow you to do an approved ground school?

Every school should allow this as your GS "hours" although some may still require a pass of their practice exam before they recommend you for the real one. The Harv's recommend is not valid outside of Manitoba. In BC, they did not accept it.CpnCrunch wrote:pilottraining.ca is great. The Harv's Air letter of recommendation is absolutely accepted in Ontario. If some TC regional office didn't accept it, I'd get in touch with Adam Penner at Harv's Air and get him to take it up with Transport. I'm fairly sure Harv's Air doesn't offer an online groundschool for study across the country and the world on the understanding that it's not acceptable in some areas.
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.

Our letters are accepted everywhere in Canada by Transport Canada including the Pacific region.
We did have an issue in the Pacific Region several years ago, but this has long been resolved.

I can confirm that TC Victoria accepts it. I'd definitely recommend pilottraining.ca.apenner wrote:Our letters are accepted everywhere in Canada by Transport Canada including the Pacific region.

Well it was a number of years ago, in the Pacific region so I guess there you go! Problem fixed.
