Makes perfect sense.. its California and he's an actor, what we consider left is still pretty far right for them.

According to the story he said something like "was that airliner supposed to be underneath me?"

That seems like a quote from an old man before he loses his drivers license

The airliner would likely have been holding short of the runway. Land on the taxiway and perhaps you were overflying the airliner.

Yeah, paints a pretty bleak picture of a pilot who's days are numbered.

I guess nobody on here has ever lined up on a taxiway a couple miles out on final but caught it early and corrected it? I've had flight instructors do it with me and I've done it once too. I seem to recall airline pilots landing at wrong airports too - maybe they should hang up their wings and call it day too?

Well the carb incident clearly wasn't his fault, and you would think the instructor in the helicopter should have prevented the practice autorotation crash.

I work at a control tower and I've seen it happen. A couple landed on a taxiway and some clearly lined up for the taxiway other times.

Can someone here tell me at what age a pilot is to old to fly?

I notice there are comments about the age factor in a lot of these incidents / accidents and I sure would like to know when I should quit flying before I kill myself.

Too old to fly is when you know something is wrong such as flying over an airliner on a taxiway and then still proceeding to land on the taxi way.

Are you saying only old people do that?

I think I remember a Jazz flight doing that in Seattle with a load of passengers in it.

When you ask an anonymous internet forum when it's time to quit. It's time to quit.

Same as when you question if you have a drinking problem. It's time to quit.

Every pilot, who dies of old age, will have to face the day when their flying days are over. What and who determines that will be different for each person and not be decided on Avcanada by a court of judges who have never met or flown with an individual. I think about that day every fall when we park for the season and hope I'm well enough to watch the ice go out in the spring and get at er again.

I recently watched a short NFB documentary about a fine gentleman from Newfoundland who still lived and loved to fly his Cessna 140 floatplane. At the time of filming he was 86 years young and fit as a fiddle.

Bob Hoover was still doing his both props feathered aerobatic routine in his Twin Commander well into his eighties.

I quit flying the airshow circuit when I turned seventy, I quit because I was getting suicidal putting up with the B.S. that the airshow business is requires you to put up with.

As to when I will quit flying, that will depend on how long I stay healthy.

At the moment I am as healthy as I was when I quit flying the air show circuit.

I had a very serious drinking problem and solved it by going to Schick Shadel treatment centre in 1985 and have never had another alcohol drink since...which is probably why I am still so healthy..

He must have also been a very small gentleman if a 140 on floats was able to fly with him in it!

Suicidal tendencies will get you grounded...especially if you are too old to fly and have a drinking problem.

Fortunately I proved I was making the correct decisions because I quit the airshow business before I offed myself or went back to drinking. :smt040

But all kidding aside the airshow flying thing was the worst job I ever had in the flying industry.
