General Aviation into YYC

Post by milotron »

Hi,
I understand that the CFS has noted restrictions for GA operations in/out of Calgary after a certain time in the day. Is this enforced strictly?

How accommodating is YYC to GA traffic the rest of the time? I am wondering if it is easier just to fly into Springbank and drive into town after that.

I know that YVR doesn't specifically say NO to GA traffic, but I rarely see it and I wouldn't try to go in there either. Is Calgary the same way?

Best person to answer that would be the atc unit at Calgary, look up their contact( non emergency) number in the cfs & give them a call.

What are you flying? CPS has a couple piston fixed wing aircraft and theres at least one more that flies in and out on a regular basis. Biggest thing is if you can keep up with the flow they likely wont turn you away, but if you're in a 150 doing 60kts 5 miles final you may be making a call after landing if they let you land.. Keep in mind landing fees at YYC are 92.50, YBW theres none for piston aircraft.

If you do decide to bring your bird, avgas is a bit scarce. Signature has some but its very expensive and they have a pretty high minimum to waive the ramp fee. Million Air can arrange avgas for you much cheaper, but I think you would have to pay a ramp still.

PM me if you have any other questions.

Go to YBW unless you want to get gouged....crazy fuel and ramp prices at all FBOs...... They are serious about the restrictions and will write up a CADOR for sure if you operate during prohibited times.

Thanks for the replies. This confirms my suspicions.

I fly a turbo mooney and can keep reasonable speed on the approach. The prohibition is the issue as I would be coming in for work, wanting to depart after 5pm, which is after their daily GA ban if I recall.

Springbank it is. Only a 15 minute longer drive.
