"C-GTJX, a SAAB 340B aircraft operated by Transwest Air, was conducting flight TW280 from La Ronge, SK (CYVC) for Fond-du-Lac, SK (CZFD). Upon landing on Runway 10 in CZFD, the aircraft overran the end of the runway and came to rest in a snow cleared area with the main landing gear approximately 25 feet past the runway end. The flight crew taxied the aircraft to the apron and no damage was observed. There were no injuries to the 3 crew members or 21 passengers. Runway condition after the occurrence was reported to be 2 inches of slush. The operator’s maintenance was dispatched to examine the aircraft before returning it to service."
Two inches of slush is quite a bit. How long is the runway?

Not particularly long but is there any runway condition report available. If not, perhaps the slush is difficult to see and it is assumed to be snow.Diomedea wrote:Runway is 3805' x 75'. Two inches of slush? Yikes.

Re: Saab 340 Overrun
Its not entirely uncommon for a runway that has been "compact snow" all winter to turn to slush as temperatures warm. Curious as to what happened though, my experience with slush, albeit in lighter aircraft, is that it slows you down a lot faster...could this be a case of avoiding reverse to limit prop damage, or ice underneath the slush?
