Float Rating, Lower mainland
Any recommendations on schools to do my float rating at? Schools or freelance?
Re: Float Rating, Lower mainland
Freelancers will only do a float rating, if you have an aircraft at your disposal - otherwise, good luck finding a school who will let a non-employee instructor take their aircraft. It's all about insurance...
As for schools, two I can think of off the top of my head, Island Coastal at Pitt Meadows, and Fort Langley Air at Fort Langley.

Re: Float Rating, Lower mainland
Way back, I did my seaplane rating at Fort Langley Air.
Dave Hamel is gone, but hopefully the standard he set remains. Great instructor, I learned more from him in 5 or 6 hours than I did from all the other instructors I had had to that point, and for a while after...
They had a 180 then, I heard they maybe had a Super Cub years ago... Don't know where they're at now, but I'd strongly consider doing it there.

Do you have a floatplane of your own? If you do then there are a few freelance instructors out there.
For schools I think there are just two options. Fort Langley Air, they have a Cessna 180, John Crawford is the instructor and I can say he is very good. The other option is Island Coastal Aviation at Pitt Meadows, they have a 180hp Cessna 172 (I think), I've heard only good things about them but I have no experience with them.

Is Air-Hart not doing a full commercial license on floats any longer...?

I don't know. Aren't they in Kelowna though? The op was asking about the Lower Mainland.Floatr wrote:Is Air-Hart not doing a full commercial license on floats any longer...?
