Hey everyone, I'm looking to find the rules for how long the ppl written is valid for.

I wrote my ppl exams 4 years ago and then completed my recreational permit flight test. I got issued my aviation document with my recreational permit. I then stopped flying for 4 years. Now I'm back up and flying and have been told by some people that I need to re-write. Others think that because I completed the rec flight test,I'm ok.

I tried googling it and all I can find is that the flight test is valid for one year but nothing about the written portion. If someone can point me I the right direction it would be appreciated

The written is valid for 2 years I believe.

All written exams valid for 24 months as referenced in the CAR above.

If you got your pilot permit - recreational on the basis of having sat the PPL exam (PPAER) I think you don't need to resit - it's "locked in". Can't find a reference though, so call Transport and let us know what they say.

The OP raises an interesting question. Unfortunately the PPL requirements in CAR 421 don't include any mention of the PPL exam in the credits section so I think the OP would have to re write the PPL written exam.

He/she should definitely e-mail their regional office and ask the question officially.

Thanks for the replay, I called TC and although she agreed that it does read like I shouldn't have to resist it, I still do. Not a huge deal just some more $$$ for TC

@PF, CAR 400.03 (2) does talk about locking in, but only for the ATPL. So, my best guess is that it is not valid for the PPL.
