Hired! Sort of...

Post by Det »

Just curious... of those who've gotten the big thumbs-up from AC, did any of you get a call with the job offer, but no firm course date? I'm in that boat but haven't heard of anyone else in there with me... just wondering if I'm starting a trend here... and when my boat's going to make port, of course...

Just relax, it’s nothing personal the background is in motion. The training would be a lot easier if we only had one type but we don’t.

Cheers.

Answer to the phone call...I'm available at your convenience. Assuming that you really are ready to go. If someone drops out or has "personal issues", let them know you'll be there on a phone call. It happens. It might not seem like such a big deal to you outside of the AC loop, but seniority is everything, and a course or two can mean a serious amount of wage or working condition uplift or loss over an entire career. I could not grasp that prior to joining AC decades back.

I was called to Emirates on the short call basis as a direct entry 340C. I did not volunteer for that. Even though we were in CCAA, at that time and life at AC was very insecure, it just couldn't do it in the end, because I really was not fully committed to leaving AC - at that time - and for no real immediate benefit. Well, maybe I was, but other significant factors in my life were not. It is a family decision of course, but if you have made up your mind already, then let AC know that when "the voice" calls.

Det,

Just to clarify, you were called today and told you were in a pool but not given a start date? Or are you still waiting for a call after interviewing???

Hey, don't get me wrong... I've been waiting many, many moons for this opportunity so nothing's going to stop me from taking it. I understand the importance of seniority and I'd have been there will bells on at course #1 if they'd have had me. I'm just wondering if anyone else has gotten the job offer minus a course date as I haven't yet run across anyone who has.

:?:

I'm pretty happy to be stuck in this quandary, though!!!

:D

spm, I was called a couple of days ago and offered a position. The gentleman said that it'd probably be for the next course, but possibly the one after... and that Ms. H would get back to me details. After a couple of days with no more word, though, I'm thinking it doesn't bode well for the November course. So I think I'm hired... just waiting for further...?

You're on the Nov. course?

Hey Det

Congrats and welcome aboard!!!

I wouldn't fret too much at this point and don't write off the last minute call for the November course. Sometimes decisions are made last minute.

They pulled me off the 767 on a Thursday to start an Embraer course on the following Monday. As Balls said also, they may realize at the last minute that there is space suddenly available and you are on it.

Either way, congrats.

Hey Gelb, looking at the sig you sign, have you read any of Jimmy Buffet's books? Decent writer; fun, easy reads. Check out the Goose if you are in Orlando at Universal itza be-ute mate.

Yessir, read 'em all. Have you checked out his latest yet?

You're not talking about the Margaritaville in Orlando, are you? I've been there, but I don't remember a Goose.

Yeh man, Margaritaville in Orlando, in front of the club, on the water, pulled up on the "beach" a full on operational and super clean Goose with the map of his trek on the stones laid out in the beach side bar - last I saw which was probably almost a year ago now, with a herd in tow.

I think I'll be going to Margarita, Vz in a week or two if I can plan for the wife to be unavailable.

Hm... I was there spring of '04. My memory sucks... totally don't remember seeing that Goose. You'd think such a thing'd leave an impression. Too many Margaritas, maybe? (...Some people claim that there's a woman to blame... but I know, it's my own damn fault!)

Orlando's the only one I've been to... haven't had much time for travelling the last few years -- other than when I'm on the clock. I was there for sim, in fact.

Yup, that's one man who's got it all figured out. I have yet to hear any better beach or poolside music. He's a goddam philosopher!
