Sounds unlikely. I work at Sunwing. Always plenty of rumours going around but I've never heard that one.

While I have no idea what, if anything is happening with Sunwing, Bombardier and/or their customers have used the Skyservice apron and/or maintenance for Q400 deliveries and returns for over a decade. There have been Q400s from SAS, Qantas, Russia and the Caribbean parked there at various times. For quite some time Republic's returned Q400s have been sitting on there as well.

Doubt there’s any truth to that... If they were owned by Jazz they’d be online by now. We can’t afford to run with any fewer Q’s than we are already.

The only thing Sunwing is getting from Bombardier is the VP Flight Ops ... via Porter

I think that was probably the gist of the original slightly cryptic post.
Is RH retiring?

Those white United Express Q400 belonged to Republic Airlines. They phases the Q400 program down. They are going to Flybe in Europe and some will be leased to other companies.

Flybe did take some of those aircraft, but apparently they weren't in great shape and they declined to take all the aircraft they initially planned on.

Not yet but he wants to fly the line for a few more years before he does. Sunwing's been looking for a new VP since the summer.

Some are Ex Republic aircraft. They still have the N registration on them (which you can trace back to Republic). As well ex Flybe machines. There is at least one customer that I know of taking the Q's from Skyservice. The link for Flybe is 3 years old and completely out of date. Flybe has Q400's but don't be surprised to see them leaving their fleet (nudge nudge wink wink say no more).

Sunwing has zero reason to get Q400s. Their business model is built on moving people to/from vacation destinations in the Caribbean. They have and continue to do great flying into pretty much any Canadian airport with demand by flying via larger cities (ie. Bagotville to Cancun with a stop to pick-up/drop pax in YQB).

Same here,
Unless of course, the master plan is to provide holiday services between Red Lake and Moosoonee.

The topic and original post was a cryptic hint at Porters former VP of flight ops (who also used to work for bbd on the q400) going to Sunwing.
I don't think they meant Sunwing was starting a q400 run.

Can anyone confirm the rumour that said VP was not approved by TC for the role of DFO, as per lack of experience and is now flying as an FO to meet some numbers?

My mistake. Many 705 operators treat the DFO as the ‘Chief Pilot’ not in title but rather to validate the requirement of the AOC. I guess SW does it differently - perhaps the VP Flt Ops.

Our Cheif Pilot is our DFO. Mr Gandhi is the VP of flt ops.

For the record, 2 of those Q's in YYZ are joining the westjet fleet this year. They are getting painted as we speak.
By year end the total will be at 47.
