Anyone know what is happening with this company? Heard they have bought Hicks and Lawrence, Air Tindi, Great Slave Helicopters, Superior North Helicopters and are looking at some other possible acquistions.

I ended up sitting next to the owner on an AC flight from YWG-YYZ back in April. I saw him reading a flying mag in the departure area and ended up in the seat next to me. I asked him about the magazine, he said he saw an article about a 182 on the cover, and he was interested because he owned one. By the end of the flight I learned he owned 2...and a 337...and a bank...and now Hicks.

Nice guy though, even bought me lunch in YYZ.

Discovery Air Inc.
During the first quarter, the Corporation, as part of its lending
activities, agreed to assist a client in restructuring its financial affairs
and provide on-going management. In return for these services, the
Corporation, through Discovery, acquired a temporary 50% interest in the
company, Hicks & Lawrence Limited (H&L).
This company has been involved in
providing aerial forest fire services to government entities since the 1940's.
Revenue from aerial forest fire services is included in other income.
Additional information with respect to the inclusion of these operations in
the results of the Corporation is included in Note 6 to the consolidated
interim financial statements.
On August 16, 2005, the Corporation through its subsidiary Discovery,
purchased the remaining 50% of the outstanding common shares of H&L for total
consideration of $1,700,000, consisting of cash of $1,200,000 and common
shares of Discovery valued at $500,000.
This transaction had the effect of
increasing Discovery's ownership of H&L to 100% of the outstanding common
shares, and reducing the Corporation's investment in Discovery from 69% to 57%
of the outstanding common shares.

Here's the scoop on the buyout:

Will the Hicks and Lawrence name continue on? My grandfather can tell some stories about their beginnings back from when he flew. The organization has some outstanding lineage that I hope does not get forgotten.
