I recall reading somewhere that performance wasn't as drastically impacted as one would think. As well, handling remained essentially the same as a wheeled Spit.

OK ... sure.
But just how commercially viable is it? The real question in the minds of every northern operator is "How many Moose quarters will it haul?"

She'll haul plenty of liquid cargo - that should make it more than viable.

There was also a flotplane variant of the Wildcat, the F4F-3S Wildcatfish.
Even the Japanese "Zero" had its floatplane version

Yes but where's the mosquito on floats

now that! Would be awesome! Probably would carry a moose or two as well.
