Chorus/Ggn/Sky merge

Post by GATRKGA »

Is Chorus buying sky regional and ggn and merging it all under one Air Canada Express company?

What is the likelihood of this with Sky being moments away from certification, and then, what would a merger look like among all three ?

They should merge, but if course then how could AC undercut one another using each other?

If they do, AC will guaranteed start looking for other companies to do the flying for less, just to keep costs down at chorus.

Maybe, but they have cost certainty until 2025 with chorus. I'd be surprised to see a merger, but this business seldom makes sense.

Personally, I wouldn't put much thought into it. If it were to happen, it's not likely that you'll be able to do anything about it anyways.

Could AC be behind an Express merger as a way to mitigate manpower shortages in the industry ?

Who or what is Chorus?

Well Sky just certified under ALPA... so it would be a rather easy merger I suppose.

No it won't and we've spoken about this before. Russ Payson and Calin have different motives and a merger would not be beneficial to them. The tone will begin to slowly change around here, it'll be a rough but welcome transition.

Congratulations again.

Can someone please give the slightest reason why this would happen?

New government legislation coming in that is going to make companies that contract flip eg CPA to CPA pay the same wage and keep people retaining their longevity for pay and vacation. C-86 I believe.

SKR has only signed the cards. Not sure they've certified yet.

However, I doubt AC would try and pull a fast one on them and push or force a purchase/merge. They could however downsize SKR and hand Jazz a bunch of the embraers, as they did to us by giving GGN our old tired 200s.

You'd be more likely to see GGN get snagged than SKR.

AC doesn't want a repeat of what happened previously, with only one regional dictating their wages and conditions.

So would that mean the boys and girls at Jazz/GGN would be getting a raise? Sky FO's starting out get $49.35 and Jazz is $38 something

They make more per hour but jazz contract is worth more money per year overall. Something people really need to start understanding on this forum is hourly pay is only ONE PART of your overall compensation.

Regarding Bill C 86, there is a section about employees being paid less then their counterparts.
Equal Treatment
The Proposed Act would require employers to provide employees with equal rate of wages if:

the employees work in the same industrial establishment;
the employees perform substantially the same kind of work;
the performance of that work requires substantially the same skill, effort and responsibility; and
their work is performed under similar working conditions.
To comply with this new equal rate of wages obligation, employers would increase but could not lower an employee’s rate of wages. Employers would not have to increase an employee’s rate if the difference in rate was due to seniority, merit or the quantity or quality of each employee’s production.

Employees would have the right to request a review of their rate of wages.
Would this not apply to the "B scalers"?

Can't really pay your mortgage with seniority, schedule or unused benefits. They might pay 500, but that's no good when the rent is 600. Pay em well, and treat them like valued employees. You'll have experienced pilots lining up down the street and the only one without a pilot shortage. Imagine the savings on training costs when the only people leaving are the ones retiring.

What about Air Wisconsin?

They seem to be a great place to work regionally in the states. Problem is, no one here has right to work down there so it's hard to keep making comparisons. As much as we'd like to compare ourselves to US carriers, we are at the end of the day in Canada.
