Okay, everybody just kewl your jets (boy thats a bad joke). Anyways she aint leaving anytime soon. Yes she has her APU running but there is alot of things that have to be cleaned up first. Yes if you were at CYQT today you saw the beacon on, but the MExican and myself were just clearing the engines and building up some oil pressure to check the levels. WE still have to add over 10 gallons of skydrol and fill the tires but the apu still needs a looks see.
The more you know the more trouble you can get in!

How low were the tires? ...and what's wrong with the apu that it needs a "look see"?CGZMT wrote:Okay, everybody just kewl your jets (boy thats a bad joke). Anyways she aint leaving anytime soon. They can probally get it out with the SP... You can get a fully loaded out 744 in 7000ft, as long as it is not going too far. The closest airports nearby that can handle a 747 are MSP (Minneapolis/St. Paul International) and YWG (Winnipeg International). Both are within 700km, meaning a light fuel load. Add in the fact that it is flying out empty (only the flight crew) and the runway itself is 6200ft, and the elevation is 653ft, you can get this bird out no sweat.

That old clapped out pile of aluminum sh** should be turned into beer cans - today. Old dinosaurs like that need to be recyclyed through the YQT paper mill and disappear forever.
Along with the crews that might be tempted to fly it.
It kind of reminds me of the old "Star Wars" crappy looking ships everyone will be flying in 2350. Just another way of getting around in the centre of the universe in Toronto, I suppose.
I guess there will be pay for "PPC", fly for no money, even that far into the future.

Actually, KDLH is closer and 09/27 is 10,152' long. The airport has handled the Russian Antonov-124 in the past so an SP should be no problem. The real problem would be if the FAA has reinstated the CofA and whether they would let it into their airspace...WJflyer wrote:The closest airports nearby that can handle a 747 are MSP (Minneapolis/St. Paul International) and YWG (Winnipeg International). Okay lets get it started. Yes ZMt is a college reg. As i am a student there ask BALLS he knows. Aeromonkey you must work for ESSO. The 747 is here because of cheap parking fees and due to the fact FAA is out for it and there is a 9 million dollar lawsuit in europe. owned by Dr K.A. Paul. some indian healer that travels the world. hired three mexican AMES to work on it one got here and the other two are detained at the border. Best guess is in the spring and at 2 or three in the morning

The APU has no "hydraulic tanks"...
?.... If all 4 hydraulic tanks on the bird were empty, they'd better be doing some serious stuff before that thing goes flying!!
You didn't answer about the tires btw?? Do you know what their pressure was?
Good grief, this thing really does sound like a recipe for sorrow... I'm sure the airport folks there would love to be rid of it, but with all that high priced help (
) coming up to look after it, it's probably best it just sits as a monument to cheapness...
Oh ya... with that amount of skydrol leaking, I wouldn't be parking a damn thing underneath it!

this 747SP was originally owned by China Airlines.. in fact it's one of the only 747s to break the sound barrier!! (well.. im not sure about that but it may have while diving uncontrollably from fl410 to 9500'). wrote:Just wondering the background story why is the SP in Thunder Bay? kinda an odd place for such a rare heavy. I use to love checking out Air China's old SP that came into YVR back in my ramp days. "look Ed, they finally replaced that missing panel" (after two weeks).
you can check out its history here: http://www.747sp.com/History.asp?22805
Okay. tight main landing gear has a h-fluid leak, as well as the left flap between the two inner wing pilons. H-fluid leaking out of apu housing not sure where is yet and all 18 tires are well below 160-150 PSI of nitrogen. Should be at 200 or 220 depending where you look.

Thanks.
I do believe that means ALL tires need to be replaced, not refilled (check the AMM on that if you like ). (220 psi would fit for a 747-100/200 -wasn't sure if an SP would have them different)
...and if there's hydraulic fluid that appears to be leaking out the apu compartment, it's from elsewhere in the tail... (likely rudder pcu's) the APU has nothing to do with hydraulics.

Well as of today, there is the TRANSPORT CANADA truck parked in front of the nose gear, about 4 172 size aircraft parked under the engine, and also as of this morning the purolator convair 520 or whatever it is they run parked in front of it behind the truck.
I personally don't think this thing is going anywheres for quite awhile, on top of that they still have to do engine runs on it, and such.
Maybe mitch could help me out here as I don't know what would have to be done.
