Peterborough.

Better maintained runways than most other airports in Canada, controlled or uncontrolled.

Pukatawagan!!
Hehe...might as well add Gaywaywin...Snatchigo Lake too...

Vernon used to be good until the new AP manager took power, it's too bad. Nelson gets my vote now that they're on the right path again. Keep it real! :D

I'm a bit biased, though; I started my flight training there. 8)

Where's Revelstoke, Powell River, Penticton, Bella Bella, or Sechelt? 9% for Chilliwak are you joking?? Are we voting on nicest pavement and FBO's or are we voting for nicest surroundings and most picturesque?

Really??? Well, I'm glad to say that I made it there once to try the butter tarts... and they lived up to their reputation. It's too bad that I'll never see another :(

I did my PPL at Courtenay, and so that takes the top of the list for me. I've flown to Chilliwack dozens of times, but still haven't tried the pie.

Hi. I've been "lurking" at Avcanada for quite some time now, but only now have decided to post. I've been flying both fixed and rotary in 27 countries around the world for almost 30 years, and one of the things I really enjoy is visiting terrific, small airports that are recommended by other pilots. This forum has given me lots to explore, but I feel the need to highlight what seems to be a mistake.

Last weekend we flew into Nelson, B.C. because it looked so good from both this site, and the CFS. I must say, I was terribly disappointed. When we arrived, we went to park the airplane for a few hours and taxied to the tiedowns beside several other airplanes. A kindly gent came over to inform us that we were not to park in the center of the ramp area, as it was reserved for helicopter operations. The CENTER of the airport!! We were instructed to go and tie our aircraft down at the far end- a place I would have thought they would set aside for the rotary traffic (conventionally placed at the periphery for the sake of safety and operational ease for everyone, in my experience), and where, judging by the decrepid old hangar (Okanagan?), certainly was in the past. There were no tie-downs to be found. I have to ask, with this kind of ridiculous set up, how can this place qualify as one of the best in the country? What does the airport manager plan to do when things get really busy there during the summer months? I could see no obvious reason as to why the airport would be set up in such a dysfunctional manner.

Airtids, you seem to be a proponent of this location- I have determined you own the Charter company and Flight School there (I should have come in to chat you up, but found myself in a bit of a hurry to leave!). Can you explain this? Have you thought about how you are going to expand your business under this scenario? You look to be very pinched down there. How does your airport plan to attract other businesses?

Don't get me wrong, Nelson is a stunning location and having an aerodrome within walking distance to everywhere is simply fantastic. However, the current setup seems like an accident waiting to happen, and I'll have no part of it. I realise that your space is tight, but there must be another solution to your problems. Why locate the rotary in the midst of a tight ramp? I have sent you a message to your personal e-mail address.

From what I've seen, there is no way I'd be able to vote for Nelson as "The Best Airport" in Canada. Looks like it's Vernon for me...
