• Coffee in a Thermos and security

Getting really sick of the on board coffee and I'm looking at taking my own Thermos to bring my own coffee with me. I have a 1.9L Stanley, so it's a little on the large side and completely metal. Anyone have any problems with security, specifically internationally?

In Canada and in most countries, no problem working/dhing/commuting in uniform.

In the UK, it's a problem.

Interesting, I may give that a try. For $25-30 its not a bad option. Like YYCFlyGuy said you'd still be using the aircraft water, but the option of having your own fresh ground beans might mitigate that. Each FIN seems to be different, some the on board coffee/water seems OK, others it's completely undrinkable.

Duly noted. Since you cockpit flight crews mentioned yer company coffee I have to say as a passenger noticed over the past few years AC coffee is putrid at times. Tastes and smell burnt like it has been recycled for a great number of hours. As the sign says in the aft lavatory on yer B767ER “ only need to flush once it’s a short distance to the galley”

I understand you perfectly. Also, I'm not particularly eager to drink coffee on airplanes, but at the same time, I can't do without coffee. So I decided to order a reusable thermos cup inspired by the article https://starbmag.com/best-starbucks-k-cup-flavors/. Such cups are very convenient precisely because you can take enough coffee for a trip and to drink your coffee when you want. I also like that Starbucks pours my coffee into such a cup, which is very convenient.

I have found several of those travel french presses at value village for $2.00.
My next move is to get a silicone pour over funnel and bring my own beans. I'll put up with the onboard water but bad coffee can't be tolerated.

I flew with one guy who had a Handpresso manual espresso pump. www.handpressocanada.ca
He swore by it, and the carrying case was… a conversation starter?

I have one of those. Found it didn't work well with the reduced cabin pressure. Also one big device to carry around. Pour over is the way to go. more caffine than espresso and better tasting coffee.

I take my thermos and make my own lattes…

I’ve had mine dumped out …

I also usually pack my own meals to save perdiems… it’s common to have CATSA/ ACSTA to go through the contents of my lunch/ they’ll confiscate my cutlery .. at which time they get an earful.. after they go through my food I usually don’t feel like eating it.

FYI I define “going through food” as in removing the covers of my meal Containers / touching contents ..

I've used an Aeropress for the last 10 years for 99% of the coffee I make at home and on the road. Best coffee i've had from a hand-operated unit, and i've tried everything but a handpresso.

I ordered a Coffee Jack from the indiegogo campaign a year and half ago, they're just about to ship them. I'm looking forward to seeing how well it works.

Did you read the review at the bottom of the link you provided?

A LEAKY DISASTER

Seems like a good idea, but just another example of how GSI should stick to making metal dishes.

Pros:
-Looks pretty
-Can be hung from a bag

Cons:
-Perforated lid that leaks as fast as you can pour it on yourself or your gear
-Mouth piece lid also doesn't seal, not sure why it even has one when there is a big hole drilled through the main lid. Maybe that wasn't a big enough leak to meet GSI spec.
-Also leaks out the o-ring seals inside the cylinder, will shoot boiling water at you on occasion.
-Almost every other review says it deforms and begins to leak so bad it won't even make coffee.

Hilariously poor.

I bring the large Contigo mug, It holds a Large McD's coffee perfectly. Never had an an issue with it with CATSA.
