New Hires

Post by Pilot@123 »

So with Porter continually pushing back their restart date, has anyone heard anythiung with regards to new hires. Probably a long shot I know just wondering if anyone wokring there has heard any rumours. I know they hired two groups one was supposed to start in March and one in April. I've come to the realization that waiting for a start date may be futile, but would still like to think there is a chance, one day.

From what I've heard, Porter put in some recall language to their Flight Ops Admin Guide (essentially some Terms and Conditions) associated with the shutdown and restart of the airline in the late spring/early summer of 2020.

Essentially, no new pilots can be hired until all pilots currently on the property have been given a recall opportunity (return to service), or 60 months from date of furlough (in this case March 20, 2025).

The pilot class cancelled in March 2020 has been recalled and will start in January. The careers portal is open on the flyporter website.

Good luck!

Everyone at Porter has been given the opportunity to return, "Phase 4" will have the remainder of the pilot group returning on the payroll as of Jan 10, 2022.

First class of new hires will run in Q1 2022.

So do the hires that were supposed to start back In March/April need to reapply or should we expect an email for a start date? Anyone know?

Hiring will likely be paused due to the upcoming travel restrictions/lockdowns. Next few weeks will be telling.

If you had a previous ground school date, you should email the company. They're offering sim evals to previous hires and presumably re entry into the next ground school without an interview.

Been told 12-14 pilots in Jan 10th ground school, they combined two classes together due to some found other job and some refused to get vaccinated.

If you had a interview and cancelled ground school, email HR they will either have a sim for you or a new ground school date for you!

What is the plan for staffing the E195?

Is entry in to service still planned for Q3/Q4 2022?

Where will the Porter pilots receive E195 training?

…staffing the E195 from current D8 pilots and OTS DEC and FO’s, including DEC to D8’s. Currently not enough pilots with a 29 tail fleet to go to 39 in 2022 and 59 within 2-3 years. Many current FO’s don’t have enough TT or even an ATPL, but they all have a reserved Capt position based on system seniority…when they can finally upgrade. OTS pilots will go to BOTL, but with 30 confirmed and 50 options even BOTL will have decent position in a few years. A west coast base, more D8’s to feed the E all to come.

Q3/Q4 still on track. YZF can expect a visitor soon.

Flight safety Toronto is making room for a new sim.

Any talk of a reorganization of the eastern bases as well? Right now, we have YHZ and YOW east of Toronto. Is there a risk to see some of those bases close to have YUL as an official base? I would hate to apply and see the bases being reorganized.
