Anybody kow the scoop on provincial airlines. How are the working conditions there: pay, schedule, hours? Do they hire right into the Dash8 if someone has a current Dash8 rating or is it only upgades from within?

Same as anywhere else. Good and bad. They do, however, tend to hire internally first. Awesome schedule, fair pay. Captains on salary while F/O's hourly and base.

hmmm, well as of yesterday they laid off 9 pilots that I know of on the saab and Dash and cancelled runs to gander and halifax, apparently they have a dash parked, Not good.

What people fail to realize about provincial is that for the most part you will be treated likecrap because most people are willing to take that due to the fact they want to stay in NF. The upper management at Provincial always end up expanding and then laying off. It's the way the company is run. If they ever lose the fisheries contract I have my doubt's that they would last 6 month's and that's all provincial aerospace, airlines,etc.....
If you want the truth talk to an employee there with some actual time spent there not someone who has worked there for 6 month's and is still wet behind the ears. I know of one former employee who spent many years there and would tell new hires to walk right back out that door on the first day, everyone said he was just disgruntled but later found out he was right.

I am an employee there and trust me, it's bad. Right now we all have plans for elsewhere. As for someone thinking about working for us should the option be available in the future one word "Don't" , If you ever want to be a captain some day then this is not the place for you. They don't like to upgrade from within, we have F/O's here who have been in the right seat for 5 years and still no sign of upgrades and if there were they would most likely still hire outside.
What they fail to realize is that they have ruined many peoples lives, I am not just talking pilots. They are just plain and simply sly and ruthless, decisions all being made by in the end one person, the owner. I could go on and on but I won't because it would not fit on this page.
I am a firm believer in karma, and I really feel bad for the management in this company if it turns on them.
A company who bases itself on being a proud NL company but yet takes advantage of all it's Newfoundland people becuase they know we want to live here, really fucking classy.
