Where to Live?

Post by CAL »

If you had a choice between Thunder Bay or Winnipeg where would you choose if you had someone coming with you who has never really experienced much of Canada except Toronto or Montreal?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have alot of experience with Winnipeg, but Thunder Bay can be lots of fun. There are lots and lots of really hot girls. Tons more than you would expect. Winnipeg is obviously alot bigger and would likely feel less isolated at times, especially coming from TO and Montreal. But there's just something about good ol' T-Bay. Best years of my life were spent there.

Well I have lived in winnipeg, and now live in thunder bay so heres my take.

Winnipeg is the city with pretty much everything that any city has to offer, there is something to always do, jobs are easy to come by(none aviation for your significant other).

Thunder Bay is a really big town, has everything that winnipeg has to offer just not at as many spots, if you are in to skiing and snowboarding or even ice and rock climbing you go 10 south of the city, you want to go sailing, go on lake superior, you like to go fishing and hunting, heck drive a hour north of the city and your there.

I really miss Winnipeg if I had the choice of the 2 I would choose winnipeg just cause it is bigger, however thunder bay is a great place to be and I got nothing bad to say about it.

cheers

Used to Montreal and Toronto?

Definately Winnipeg! More things to do that medium sized cities have to offer, like concerts, professional sports, variety of shopping etc... More diversity... Most the outdoor stuff is close by too, although not as good as Thunder Bay which is a nice city as well but a more isolated feeling for someone accustomed to bigger cities...

Just watch out for those dam Winnipeg mosquitoes for half the year!

I agree, go for winnipeg. I've lived in YQT, it's allright (beats YXL), and if you and your other half like Skiing,Sailing, Hiking it would be better. But Winnipeg offers a lot more ammenities, and a lot more for your other half to do when you're out flying, it would most likely offer more employment wise for them too. Thunder bay is a bit economically depressed and is shrinking poulation wise. If you're going there for Bearskin, congrats and have fun-it's a good spot to work!

Cheers Tintin

I would choose Thunder Bay. It's still in Ontario and yet, I'll still be able to tune to Winnipeg CTR.

I have lived and worked in both Thunder Bay and Winnipeg and would have to say Winnipeg is the better place to be... Lots more to do, cheaper to live and you are not as isolated as you are in Thunder Bay.. Thunder Bay is a beautiful place, don't get me wrong but the economy and population is shrinking... I'd choose Winnipeg.... Best of luck.

Depends on your situation and personality I'd say. If you enjoy the outdoors and having a good time, it's hard to beat Thunder Bay, especially in the summer. I think you'd enjoy it alot if you're an adventurous person with a bit of a "come what may" attitude and an open mind. Yeah, it's a bit isolated, but that's part of the beauty of it. It's got everything you could possibly want though, and it's the most affordable place I've lived in. That being said, I've seen people come from Toronto and hate it there, but they were mostly pretty boys and city boys. Like shimmy said, there's lots of hot girls there, especially when college and university is in. Just don't get too tangled up with a born and raised T-Bay girl, they're crazy! 8)

I've lived in both. YWG for 16 years and YQT for 5 years.

IF you don't love to fish or hunt or snowmobile or snowboard or drink or rock climb or snuggle up with cute LU girls, stay away from Thunder Bay. IF you love crappy roads, freezzzzzing weather and a city with not much else to offer, go to Winnipeg. Oh, the salaries are 15% higher in YQT for flying jobs.

I live in YYC now and my sanity is kept only by the Bow River, warm wx and the BigRock Brewery.
