Harv Air vs Pro IFR vs Moncton Flight College
Good Day Everyone,
I am in this dilemma in choosing between these three schools to pursue my modular flight training.
Harvs Air
Low cost of Living
Not controlled Airspace
Number of opportunities lower compared to Vancouver (Part time jobs, Connections Etc)
Affordable option
PROIFR (Professional Flight Centre)
High cost of living in Vancouver
Controlled Airspace so have to wait in a long line b4 I actually to fly due to the traffic.
More opportunities for jobs and Higher connections can be made due to its dense population
Moncton Flight College
Low cost of living at New Brunswick
Affordable option
Good Amount of percentage of pilots in Canada graduated from the school according to Linked in, not sure about it now.
My plan is to get a CPL with a instructor rating, build the hours and the hit the carriers. Please advise accordingly. I was planning to do a part time job while pursuing my flight training due to affordability issues and doing a job in the in the aviation field surrounding myself in the vicinity of planes can aid me with connections.
Thank you

one more thing you should consider about vancouver: weather sucks in the winter months.
If you're not in a hurry to finish training then it doesn't matter that much, but when you've cancelled 15 flights in a row it can be a little frustrating.

The cost of living here is for sure higher than the other two options, no question there.
You are correct that there is a much larger base to draw from over this way for it.
As for controlled airspace, IMO, unless you plan on flying for pleasure use only from uncontrolled airspace you should consider flying from an uncontrolled airfield as a negative thing.
Also, in my experience, there has been very little waiting I have had to do as a student flying here.
The weather can be a big much but in reality I have only had to cancel 1 flight this winter due to weather.
I feel that if you are experiencing what @Turboprops is with 15 flights cancelled in a row that is likely due to a poorly run school. A bit of rain or wind is not something a flight should be cancelled for but I hear many do unless it is a perfect day to fly.

Yes Vancouver weather bad 70-80%
Re: Harv Air vs Pro IFR vs Moncton Flight College
I did my Multi-IFR at Pro and think they're great but in general I would avoid the lower mainland for initial training. High cost of living, high cost of training, and boundary bay is a good distance from what is usually a very busy practice area.

Moncton isn't too bad of a place. Can't really speak to the quality of the Training there but have a couple friends turning wrenches over there and they're fairly happy.
Although, much like Vancouver, the Maritimes can have a lot of crap WX.

I spent a month at Harv's Steinbach,
Can highly recommend them,
Did a ICAO CPL conversion,
The CPL prep and checkride was done in 5 days,
IFR training and checkride took 14 days.
They provide accommodation 20bucks per night,
All in all it was a good experience,
I will return in a few weeks for multi IF,
Networking and connections doesn't just happen at flightschools, it happen all over, meet as much folks as possible, scroll forums, hang out a airfields help and do stuff, majority of jobs happen by being in the right place at the right time.
Btw its not just uncontrolled, you will get exposed to Winnipeg Centre.
