Can you crack this CADOR? Incident from Jan. 2015

Post by daniel.o »

Another case for the armchair -- and actual -- investigators on here... Can you crack this CADOR?
I'm currently researching unusual observations in Canadian airspace. Any idea what's happening in this Jan. 10, 2015 incident? Ever see something similar?
Multiple aircraft reported a very large object with a small white light in the middle, surrounded by a halo, moving northbound in the vicinity of Lumsden, SK. One pilot reported the object appeared to descend from above FL410. The sighting lasted one to two minutes. No impact on operations.

This one seems to defy a Starlink explanation, no?
Perhaps it was an optical illusion?

https://www.flightradar24.com/blog/keep ... -balloons/

If you hunt for balloons on flightradar24 it's surprising where you see them at times. The ones listed in that article are from one project, but there are other sources, and they can surprise you when you dig into the info a bit. Caught my notice once a couple years ago when checking progress on one of our planes, and a high altitude balloon popped up on the FR24 display near the BC-Yukon border.

Excellent link and definitely a possible explanation for this case. Thanks, goldeneagle. This is the kind of thing I was looking for!
