Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. plans to hire hundreds of pilots next year, amid reports of a rising number of resignations as Hong Kong’s Covid policies severely constrain manpower and weigh on morale at the airline.
“We plan to employ several hundred pilots in the coming year, many of whom have already expressed an interest in being part of the Cathay brand,” a spokesperson for the airline said in a statement Friday, without providing details of current headcount.
Hong Kong’s requirement for most inbound travelers to quarantine for as long as 21 days has forced Cathay into a so-called closed-loop system whereby pilots and crew have to spend weeks working and self-isolating away from home. The airline has cut flights this month due to operational and travel restrictions.

Sadly they'll still likely get hundreds of applications. Of course anyone recently let go from the better contract will be left in the dust. Scabby operation.

Brits never should have gave it up.
It's a shame we had to. We certainly weren't in a position to stop China taking it by force though if we'd refused to leave.

They are not hiring anyone from abroad without a Hong Kong PR.
HK government has told Cathay they are not above the basic law of Hong Kong.
21 days was utter madness, but it’s the flight banning mechanism and quarantine hotels that are guaranteed to cause insane amount of stress. Any flight that has more than 3 covid cases banned the route for 2 weeks.

Also, they are hiring as we all left.
Conditions of Service are no longer adequate. The Cathay you have in mind is gone.
