And again......

"Occurrence Summary:
C-FUSM, a Boeing B737-800 operated by WestJet, was conducting flight WJA656 from Calgary
Intl. (CYYC), AB to Toronto/Lester B. Pearson Intl (CYYZ), ON. While in cruise approximately 40
NM northeast of Kenora (CYQK), ON, the first officer became ill. A deadheading WestJet captain,
who was on board the aircraft as a passenger, assumed the duties of the incapacitated first officer.
After speaking with the operator's ground based medical support, the flight diverted to
Winnipeg/James Armstrong Richardson Intl (CYWG), MB where an uneventful landing was
conducted. The first officer was transferred to a local hospital for assessment."

One can simply write off such a scenario but it is interesting to note that there is precedence of a near disaster that quite possibly would likely not have happened if an illness had not happened to a crewmember on the flightdeck. The tragic story of Captain Stewart....
