How about a forum for folks who want to have discussions without anonymity being an issue? Seems AVCANADA is verging on losing the productive contributions from certain members because of the problems associated with conversing with faceless entities. One of the thing i've noticed from the private forums is there is a higher level of CONSTRUCTIVE discussion that goes on because everyone is visible. Reduces the BS.

It is an interesting idea. Let me look at the permissions to see if I can allow for multiple usernames off a single email address.

A forum where users get out of the closet and share info. I am not sure how many would be brave enough.

I count at least 8 who make ourselves visible right now, and my guess is you would see more. Lots easier to take off all your clothes when you're at a nudist beach, than at a dinner party!!

Oh, sorry, I just figured out what you were getting at, I think. Is there a way that you can have it a public forum for viewing, but private and confirmed in order to post?

Sorry guys but i think you are barking up the wrong tree. Certainly the anonymous one time posters who take one stupid shot and then dissapear are a product of the anonimity of this forum. But this is not the large majority of the time wasting posts. The problem is lack of grey matter, not lack of identifiability.

Good contributors may not want their names posted, and bad contributors may not care if their name is posted.

But go ahead and make a private forum and see if it works.

This gives me an idea though. Joe, is it possible to create a forum that can be read by all but only those on a list can post on it?

Yes I can make a forum with public access to view but private access to post and reply.

I like the idea of an open forum that does not hide ones personal identity.

I will see if I can make this happen this weekend.

Ahramin, I'm a member of a couple of other forums where the posters are NOT anonymous, and they are FAR more civilised and productive. I hope this works.
Maybe put it out to the users as to whether a 'viewable' forum would be preferrable to a private one. I don't really know which would be better there.

I think its actually a good idea. Nobody wants to make an ass of themselves when they know they might be working with that person at some point... I sure wouldnt anyway... Just my 2 cents.

The forum is up. All you need to do is create a new username and join the Known User usergroup to gain access.

To gain access all you need to do is register a new username with your first and last name (such as joemacdougall) then select http://www.avcanada.ca/forums2/groupcp.php?g=6910 and request to join the usergroup. Once you are granted access into the usergroup you will automatically get access into the new Known User private forum.

I'd hate to miss out on all of 9 posts that appear to be going on over there. That forum went down like a nun's knickers.
