You should read where the message is coming from before you put too much weight behind it.
The guy is an economist for the CAW. He is an oxymoron even before he opens his mouth..........
Of course he doesn't like WestJet, unions have been trying to get into the company for years, and haven't been able to scare them into it yet.
He ignored the possiblity of wage increases all together at WestJet, and yet many threads are talking of how pilots are looking at a new deal.
Regardless, who went bankrupt two years ago, who will jack up its fixed costs again when it has to pay economic prices again for its aircraft leases and up its labour costs within months. These things will ultimately put AC back on shaky ground, waiting for the next SARS or other catastrophe to put it over the edge.
I'd get medical advice from a mechanic before I'd get economic advice from a union economist.

That's good.
Wonder what he will say when hopefully the new contract gets voted in which i hear it will.Good on you guys.
I am at AC and can say things are not all that rosy here, that is for sure.
No pilot unity what so ever but saying that I can see a militant atitude growing towards the company concerning the wage reopener and the CA when it opens in 09.
It seems you can get more with honey these days than you can with being unionized.
On another note i guess they cannot say you guys are lowering the bar anymore, up to Canjet , AC and Jazz to keep that going.

Call it a tale of two airlines. WestJet reported another disappointing quarter last Wednesday, and its shares plunged. Two days later, Air Canada also announced a quarterly loss -- but its full-year profit of $258-million was the highest for any Canadian airline in the past eight years.
This guy is a douche bag. That's the most misleading first paragraph I've read in a long time (other than here).
Edit: It's not misleading, it's lying.
"Union economist" The ultimate oxymoron (emphasis on the moron).
