From what I've heard from someone directly affected, - information is scarce, they are finished in Halifax and will be done in Gander within 30 days, one of the Dash-8's will be returned. Unfortunately this has affected a large group of people including pilots and engineers but I do not have any info on the number of people affected but I heard "over 30" looks like the news was delivered with little or no notice to those involved.
Anyone involved have any additional information?

From the local news;
Changes at Provincial Airlines
February 16, 2006
Some changes at Provincial Airlines. The company is discontinuing its Gander-Halifax and Stephenville-Halifax route and that's resulted in about 30 layoffs. Spokesman Calvin Ash says they weren't getting enough passengers to make the 9 month old service viable. Ash says the company is not in financial trouble and is doing quite well in its core markets. In fact, he says they are improving their schedule for the Deer Lake, St. Anthony, and Blanc Sablon areas.

Provincial Airlines
This morning Air Lab anonouced expansion to their service. Dash 8 on order and the creation of 30 more jobs

The problem with Provincial Airlines is that they are way too top heavy, they have these big wig managers who have absolutely no understanding of how to run an airline, these were the guys who f*&*&ed up not the pilots. I mean really, the Gander and Halifax run has only been attempted how many times now by either PAL or Lab Airways, not to mention Air Atlantic or Air nova. They got way to greedy and never thought there dicisions through, and they also should have known the Voiseys contract was only gonna keep the seats full for a little while. Just very poor decision making all done by upper management.
Either way I think they will see alot of pilots leaving for greener pastures in the near future, people will only put up with this kinda poor mistreatment for so long, even if it means moving away from the "Rock" . I really do feel for the pilots because you couldn't get a more dedicated bunch of guys to their company. It's the companies loss not the pilots.

Once again....
typical PAL to clean house every 5 years or so. I heard 10 pilots laid off where the grand total is around 30 personel. Don't be suprised if you see PAL get out of sked service all together and be totally dedicated to contract work.
ooooo, you guys are even lazier than me!

40 lay-offs... 9 pilots 12 maintenance (not positive on that...)
3 more runs left to halifax and gander... next 3 sundays.
Loads in the summer were nearly full all the time. xmas was busy... but the problem was that they couldn't compete on the yhz to yyt runs - Canjet and Westjet hold those fairly well - not for what they were charging... Thing is: people still want to go to yjt, and now it looks like Air Lab is going to do a yjt run.
Pal should've only done the run once a week or put the metro on the run - would've done better i think.
Offshore still going strong.
'nuff said.
p.s. I don't think they'll pull out of the sked service completely.

As for company morale at PAL.... Well its pretty much at an all time low. I think loyalty and dedication has gone out the window. From what I understand most of the pilots at PAL have resumes out and some are just waiting for the call to go. Such as things are even if only half of those who have resumes out get jobs PAL is going to be in a very hard way.
For the most part thats all you can do... Management has to realize that PAL is getting bigger and the small airline mentality has to go... Bigger airline means bigger budgets. Especially if you want anybody around to fly the aircraft.

I kind of find this a bit ironic: another thread on this forums discusses telling your boss ASAP if you're thinking of leaving. A lot of us (myself included), believe it is best to keep the boss in the loop when another oppertunities comes our way. However, when the table is turned, I can't think of any employer that will or has ever given any sort of heads up to their employees that they may no longer have a job. Perhaps the high ups should stop complaining that they're not getting much notice from their employees.

I know who he is... more than 3 years definately... just depends on which area you're talking bout....mach_tuck wrote:Well he's a first officer on the Dash 8 and has been with PAL for about 3 years or so. He's off to greener pastures with Jazz actually.
Considering some of the stuff he's went through to get to this stage... well worth it for him. I've already congratted him over the phone.... needless to say he's quite happy.
Bastard...

Mach, have we met?

Actually I know him myself and its really good news for him. I was glad to hear that he got the position as well. He's worked long and hard to get to where he is.
