Again a colorblind

Post by Locuste »

Good afternoon everyone, My name is Arnaud i from europe France switzerland and like almost all of us, my dream is to fly and be a Pilote since im 4, im 23 now.

Sadly i have a really small colorblind, since always the people told me you will never be a pilote you cant etc, recently i discovered that here in canada and in USA, a discover a new test the Farnworth D15, i tried everyday on computer for more than 2 weeks, and everytime the results are the same i pass it with maximum 2 error. My question is i dont know anywhere to pass my medical test, i wanna do a cat 1 but sadly i dont know where i can go to pass the D12, and not the Ishiara the test that im always failing.

Thank you so much everyone i hope you can help me to realize my dream.

Hey I've been a pilot since 1990 and have never passed the Ishiara tests. When I didn't pass it in my very first aviation medical the examiner sent me to do a Farnsworth at an eye doctor. Some will have the test themselves. A little bit of red green color blindness shouldn't stop your pursuit in aviation. I try the Ishiara every year on my medical and may get 2 or 3 right. My examiner verifies that I previously passed a farnsworth and continues with other parts of the exam.

I was in the same situation as you, here’s what you need to do:

Call optometrists in your town and ask for the D15 saturated test. The first one I did was a desaturated test and I couldn’t figure it out. I can’t stress enough to make sure it’s the saturated test. Once you succeed, get the result sheet from your eye doctor. It will cost you a few dollars for both the exam and the result. Also, request for the D15 test only, and no other eye exams if it’s not what you need.

Once it’s all done, go do your Cat 1 medical at the CAME of your choice, and bring a copy of the D15 result obtained from an eye doctor. Make sure it’s signed with her licence number and the address of where the test was performed. Give the CAME a copy of your test. He will send it to Transport Canada with your regular medical paperwork.

You should then receive a full unrestricted CAT1 medical.

Let me know if you have any questions!
