Difficulty in getting a RAIC?

Post by FASAno809 »

Hello,

I am currently in the 704 world now about to make the jump to the 705 world which requires a RAIC.

I do not have any convictions but my record is not clean as well. I had several charges in the past at different times but they all either ended with being withdrawn/stayed or I entered a conditional discharge and my record was wiped clean (none are drug/gang related). I have no problem passing a regular criminal check and crossing the boarders as I have been doing it for 704 operations consistently.

I know Transport Canada will see everything though as they request LERC (Law Enforcement Record Check) from RCMP. I was wondering what my chances are in getting a RAIC. My last charge was from 5 years ago. What can I do to increase my chances of getting the RAIC?

Anyone here that got their RAIC denied? What are you doing now? Did you appeal and did you try again to get a RAIC after the required 5 years wait time?

If an airline asks the question if you will be able to obtain a RAIC you have to say yes, you won't get hired if the answer is maybe or no. In your cases I would probably go get hired by Tim Hortons or EFC or Menzies or something and do the process. I don't know of a way to find out without actually applying for one, I know a guy who got let go before sim training when it turned out his pardon wasn't enough and he had more steps to go through. I don't know any specifics about his case except that as a young man he made some bad decisions.

How is anyone supposed to know if they will be issied a RAIC or not? Or is there a publicly accessible, very clear and exhaustive list of things that makes one unacceptable?

For what it’s worth I have an assault charge and I’ve held a RAIC for almost 10 years. I’ve also travel to the USA a few times.

Sorry for the late reply.

I did eventually get my RAIC even it took a year on the yellow pass.

My understanding having gone through the process is as long as you stayed out of trouble for the last 5 years and your past charges do not have anything to do with drugs/trafficking/violence, you should be fine.

I would start reading up relevant cases on CANLII.org as many has suggested here throughout the years here and have a letter/references/supporting docs ready to go if TC do ask.

Hope you do get your RAIC! Is a nerve racking experience for sure. Good Luck!
