can you get insurance on plane over 2400 TBO

Post by Ontario_pilot »

Hi Everyone

1st post here

I`m a pilot in Training and have lots of questions

I`m looking to buy a plane to build hrs...I found one I like....but the Canadian registered certified aircraft has 2250 hrs on its lycoming with a TBO of 2400

another pilot I talk to from the States said I might have problems getting insurance once the plane is over the TBO..and may be forced to do an overhaul on an engine that might still be good for a few more hrs

was wondering if thats the case in Canada

I have calls in to a few insurance companies but not heard from anyone yet...was wondering if any of you have been in this spot.

Thanks from Ontario

It's not a problem, and they don't care at all about your engine hours.

I've never been asked about the engine hours of the plane I tried to insure.

Turbine or piston (and how many), and the hours the pilot has flown on the applicable type of engine are the only engine questions I've ever had. Both for experimental and certified planes.

No need to worry about this. Plenty of other things to worry about ;-)

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Was the person who told you that trying to sell you something? Like a new engine?
