Partially true. If the court tells you not to meet with person X as a condition of your bail, and then you do a public photo op with said person, you're really forcing the court's hand to arrest you...

Didn't she stupidly try to argue that she was allowed to meet them with counsel present, and so the photo was ok because her lawyer was in it too?

Courts don't have a sense of humour.

Its odd though, gang bangers from Jane & Finch get bail in no time after shooting each other while she is still locked up for speaking up against government policies.....

She's locked up for violating her bail conditions.

I don't really agree with her being arrested in the first place, but once that happened, with the imposed bail conditions, it's fairly logical she gets arrested again now.

Exactly, if she would have just stayed home and not socialized with the individuals listed in her bail conditions, she'd still be enjoying her own bed. Pretty simple.

There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

More laws for "others", less consequences for "us".

Really now? A violent insurrection?

Wow…..

The word “insurrection” is defined as a violent uprising against government.

I think the more relevant question is, should the court be allowed to impose such a restriction in this case.

Given that both parties agreed to said condition makes your question a moot point.

She’s been freed. Higher court overturned the ruling.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/t ... -1.6532149

https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/freedom ... -1.6003101

Some of the quotes by a judge with some degree of sanity:

In court Monday, her lawyer Lawrence Greenspon argued the two organizers did nothing more than shake hands and pose for a photo together at the gala.

She had spent 48 days in jail while she waits to answer to non-violent charges, Greenspon said. He added that she may end up spending more time in custody before her trial than she would ultimately have to serve if she is found guilty.

Crown counsel Moiz Karimjee disagreed, saying there's the potential for Lich to serve a lengthy prison sentence for her role in the Ottawa protests.

(Judge) Goodman challenged the Crown Monday about whether he has found a case of mischief that's come close to the maximum sentence of 10 years. (No)

On Tuesday, Goodman said he found it unlikely based on the charges that Lich will spend a long time in prison. He also noted her charges are non-violent.

Goodman found the breach claim to be “tenuous” and not “rationally connected” to the idea behind the non-communication order – to prevent the organization of another Freedom Convoy protest.

He disagreed with the justice of the peace about the gravity of the charges – a key factor in bail decisions – saying it’s unlikely she would be sentenced to a lengthy term of imprisonment if convicted.

The Crown had argued that Lich could be sentenced to a prison term of up to 10 years, because of the effect of the protest on the city and its citizens.

“Ms. Lich is presumed to be innocent,” Goodman said in his decision, noting that there is “uncertainty about the degree to which she will be held culpable” for the protest.

“Nothing in these reasons,” Goodman said, “is intended to minimize the harm done to the citizens of Ottawa” or the costs to various levels of government.

Goodman noted that Lich had obeyed all the other bail conditions imposed on her for nearly four months and took the step of going back to court to ask that the conditions be varied to allow her to attend the gala.

————————————-

The facts are, this is a political witch hunt, overzealous prosecution of a person for embarrassing the government of the day.

This whole prosecution is to send a message…don’t protest on Parliament Hill — or you risk prosecution yourself.

People protest on Parliament Hill all the time. In fact its a rare day there isn't some kind of protest. People don't decide to disrupt a city with their protest all the time though. Your argument seems to say that one's right to protest should be unlimited, and if it doesn't, do you feel that said protests Ms. Lich organized were unacceptable in any way?

It is an informed assumption and a correct one in that Ms Lich and a good percentage of her like minded crowd couldn’t pass a basic High School Civics class. The remaining percentage are without a High School equivalency education. However, I digress.

Charged with non violent mischief: 50 days in jail so far. Crown wants 10 years. Crown wants no bail.

Gang rape a woman? (Allegedly).

No charges, your NHL career fully protected, your name kept anonymous, endorsements intact, and settlement paid with money from parents paying minor hockey fees.

Everyone is good with this.

Really? That's the impression you've got, after how many days of significantly negative coverage of the Hockey Canada debacle; committee investigations, threats to pull funding, sponsors pulling out, etc.

Is it surprising that the biggest losers during Covid are that class?

You are probably in the group of people who benefit huge from Covid. Property owners, teachers, upper middle class office workers who got to work from home and be virtuous how “they were stopping the spread” meanwhile those disgusting high school drop outs stocked shelves and drove trucks. They kept working, and didn’t have the luxury to stay home.

Hmmm. Funny how you speak about those low life’s but if they ever stopped working what would life be like for you and everyone else? Always seems to be the most affluent who are pro lockdown and covid policy. Maybe because they have nothing to lose and only benefit. Good job!

Like the “ freedumb” fighters, you apparently have a grudge against Science and Education, why I wonder perhaps not within your scope and would fit in quite well with this Lich dolt . Hopefully you are not upfront in a Commercial Airliner flying hundreds of unsuspecting people around. It is getting tiresome with the same horseshit from the multi-alias fraternity on this site.

How about rolling with giving more or better education to the "uneducated" instead!? But that might sound too leftish as anything slightly leftish seems a big nono to Ms Lich like minded crowd. One, it will be interpreted as trowing money out the door or something similar. Two, you need the motivation to improve yourself (Kind off hard if one think he is perfect)

A bit of a weird catch 22.
