Wondering about a normal oil consumption for a continental o-470K 400 SMOH on a Cessna 180H? 1 quart every 15 hours good?
Our oil used seems to be getting better every year! Is this a good thing? Expected?
Thanks

That's absolutely fine. A couple of things. First, those big Continental engines do go through oil. It's what keeps the cylinders lubed. Two, change the oil and filter at 50 hours, if you have a full flow oil filter kit installed. If not, every 25 hours and an oil screen cleaning. Three, if you are going 50 hours between oil changes, you probably have noted that consumption goes up in the last 25 hours, as the oil starts to accumulate combustion byproducts and worn metals. When the consumption gets to 1 litre every 3 hours, that's the end. You of course, should have seen the trend going that way long before that.
