Time for ALPA

Post by Joeschumer »

Who else thinks the time has come for us to join ALPA? Or better yet, tell me why we would not want join ALPA, the benefits greatly outweigh the disadvantages IMHO. There is a reason why the vast majority of airlines are unionized. With the EMJs coming, massive hiring plans, and a potential slow down in the economy. This group is overdue for a union, the pilot group needs proper representation and organization. Proper pay rules, proper callout rules, better crew standards DHing/Hotels, merger protection, paid parking, the ability to grieve properly, and maybe some EFBs for the FOs finally. Looking at jazz and the companies that porter “compared” us to for the new pay scales, our WAWCON is abysmal, never mind the pay cuts on the Dash and stripping YOS on the EMJ pay scale, a union would of never approved that move. The time has come.

The best perk is when both AC and porter go ALPA, our seniority will carry over and we can bump the line when we get there.

Somebody sounds suspiciously negative… not a topic where a lot of people would openly answer here anyways.

Porter is really 1 of 1 in Canada.

If ALPA gets the nod to represent - their comparisons should come from south of the border.

Just take the E190 payscale without conversion. Start there.

If you’re unhappy, go join an airline that already has a union. How many emails have you sent in raising these points? My guess is none.

Having worked under ALPA representation in the past, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. A union is only as beneficial to the pilot group as it’s MEC is and given the large influx of new pilots coming, it’s likely that elected representation will not be representative of the current culture at Porter.

Be careful what you wish for, because once under a contract, you are stuck with it until the next negotiation. While nobody has enjoyed the paycut handed to the Dash FO’s, the company has already demonstrated that it is willing to change its course for the better if necessary. Add a union in the mix and that won’t be the case because the company will have to fight to not give an inch so precedent won’t be set.

It’s a no for me dawg.
