207 blunder

Post by CID »

From the non-corporate offenders list at the TC website:
A commercial pilot flying a Cessna 207 attempted a take-off with 6 passengers, unsecured luggage and a full load of fuel. The pilot had intentionally falsified the weight and balance document to ensure compliance with the aircraft flight manual. The grossly overweight and out of center-of-gravity aircraft barely got airborne and could only maintain approximately 1000 feet AGL enroute to it’s destination. The pilot was sanctioned with a total monetary penalty of $500 and a 5-day licence suspension for his wilful misconduct and poor decision-making. The commercial flying company he was working for at the time also terminated the pilot’s employment.
They should tattoo these people on the forehead spassengers can easily tell if they are sitting up front.

Transport's penalty in this case was bizarre to the point of being a joke.

Shit, I once got 90 days, and the reason given by the Regional Director of Enforcement was simply, "because I don't like you" on the stand at the Tribunal. My first legal bill for that case was $39,000.

I know one private pilot, got a one year licence suspension for flying out of annual. Guess Transport took a pretty strong personal dislike to him.

I know another guy, got a 4.5 year licence suspension. The charge? Giving flight training without "full" dual controls  I guess the next time I give dual instruction on tailwheel aircraft that only has brakes on the left side, I'm risking a 4.5 year licence suspension for violating CAR 425.23(2)(b).

I bet you I know exactly what company this is. The boss seems like the type of guy who'd scream and yell at the pilot to take that kind of load, AND to come back with a full load of fuel. "IT'LL FLY!!! JUST LEAVE THE POWER UP, GODDAMIT! SURE, YOU'LL USE MORE RUNWAY... BUT YOU'LL GET IT IN THE AIR!!!" I can almost hear him now. If anyone know for sure, can you please PM the answer? Thanks.

The best I ever heard was a pilot who called in and asked if we could come out and hold the tail up because he though that once he shut down the 207 would fall on it's tail.

Oh to be up north with no TC for 1000 miles.

It's a funney thing. I've seen TC on the ramp more frequently in Ft. Simpson and Norman Wells than I have in Edmonton and Abbotdford.
