704 FO Pay/Benefits comparisons for contract negotiations
Our 704 carrier (NWT) is in the process of negotiating a new first officer contract. Our pilot group is looking to see if what they offer us is comparable to other 704 carriers.
Current FO salary for 20 working days/month (non rotational)
yr 1: 42k
yr 2: 48k
yr 3: 54k
What are other carriers paying? What is the schedule? Are they providing rotational or any other benefits?
Current FO salary for 20 working days/month (non rotational)

First year pay is about what I made flying for a SK 704 about 9 years ago on the 1900. Yr 2 and 3 is closer to what I would imagine for today for someone sub 1500 hours time building on a 1900.fortheloveofflying wrote: ↑Tue Sep 06, 2022 9:55 pm Our 704 carrier (NWT) is in the process of negotiating a new first officer contract. What are Captains rates in comparison?
Re: 704 FO Pay/Benefits comparisons for contract negotiations
I lived in NWT 10 years ago and life wasn’t cheap back then so I doubt it has gotten any better through inflation and other increases and I was certainly making more than 50k first year FO on a 703.
42k for a FO is not a livable wage anymore up North and at 20 days a month, very hard to get a side gig.
I agree 48-54 would be much more reasonable.

In twenty years time when your kids ask how you got into flying you want to be able to say "work and determination" not "I just kept taking money from your grandparents for type ratings until someone was stupid enough to give me a job"

I'm really not trying to be specific, but these are need to know items to comoare. What type of experience are you seeing in both the right and left seats, respectively?fortheloveofflying wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 8:42 amschnitzel2k3 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 5:38 amFirst year pay is about what I made flying for a SK 704 about 9 years ago on the 1900. Typically FOs should enjoy about 50-60% and up to 75% the rates of Captains depending on experience. If Captains are north of 100k, you should be aiming to be north of 50k.

Too bad. That puts a ceiling on FO wages. Should have negotiated FO first.fortheloveofflying wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 8:42 am

Re: 704 FO Pay/Benefits comparisons for contract negotiations
?question is your housing paid for being nwt
48k fo works out to net 3150 month or 1575 every two weeks. 40k yr is 2600 surely yur pilot group feels they are worth more when the weather is --35c
60k 1st year then 5k per year retention bonus is fair north if 60th lat plus housing by end of 2023 you will lose 5k in buying power with a 8 percent inflation rate be polite, fair, negotiate in good faith expect the same.
These are multi million dollar pieces of equipment . And though you as f/o are just workn to the future you have to ensure your financials stay solid ie credit rating as the next IN YOUR career they do chk . n try these days to rent an apt in toronto or any major city with out a solid credit rating . if they say mgt say we lost a lot of money due to covid ask how much (for most northern essential airlines )did you recieve in federal relief likely hundreds if thousands of dollars if not a couple million . It likely goes very quite. Time to share good luck

Could be worse. I made half that as an FO. And it was colder than -35 too.

And this is why pay is so low in Canadian aviation. Attitudes from senior pilots that junior ones should suffer, because they had to as well.

I was retarded enough to eat cold diarrhea therefore you should too.
