Need a hand.

Post by jackfm »

Thanks for everyone's help with the Pacific Coastal topic a couple weeks ago. No phone call from my interview last week. With G/S starting earily in April it doesn't look good.

Best of luck to those who got the call!

I was wondering if you guys/gals could give me a hand finding that next job. Right now, I've got 1800TT, 400m and 350mpic, current IFR and both ATPL exams complete (sending logs to TC next week for ATPL).

Ideally, I'm looking for a FO twin-turbine spot with a company that has room to grow, and opportunity to stay with them for years.

Any suggestions??
Thank-you in advance!

Kenn Borek and north cariboo are both looking for FO's as we speak. Both are based in Calgary. I'm sure the tier 3's are also looking (CMA, GGN) in fact every reputable opperator in the country is or will be hiring I would think. Times are good, start applying.

Nice to see that kind of attitude, for a change. Keep sending those resumes and timebuilding. I'm sure others here will be able to offer more specific advice.

There's an inherent problem in sending out the resumes like this - namely that for 90% of these positions, especially in the west, you still need an "in" to even get an interview. Times are improving for sure, but they ratio of applicants to job positions is still high. Kind of negates the whole idea of emailing resumes! Reputable companies like Borek have likely 100's of resumes coming through each day. It makes for very frustrating long days firing off resumes but wondering for what reason?!

Sorry for the rant - time for a drink!

WOW I know people who got hired that don't have 1/4 the experience you do....ofcourse, they knew someone....guess it just goes to show...its who you know :(
best of luck...Like someone here said Voyager is hiring...if you have instructor experience that will bode well for you....they like former instructors (from what I hear from friends who fly/flew for them)

Voyageur does prefer instructors - IFR instructors. The interview was the most technical interview I've done yet. it's actually very hard. Know your CAP GEN and you'll do fine.

As for being specific, Walk in to North Cariboos Office and ask to Speak with Tom Blacklock, and if he's not available, Wendy Brenson. Both are extremely friendly and helpful.

Don't bother walking into Borek, you won't get to see anyone. If they want to speak with you, they'll just call and offer a job.

Don't worry with that kind of time, you'll be flying a twinn turbine any day now.

Wow, this is great info - thanks! What about Fightexec or Calm Air, etc does anyone have info on those companies?

KAG - what are your thoughts with Voyageur requiring 500 mpic on their website? I've only got 350, although if they like instructors...I've got an expiring class 2 with lots of it IFR and used to instruct back that way. Do you think Borek, or Cariboo would be a good option?

Pandora - the Pasco int. went alright...not great, but good. I didn't know anyone on the inside. And they were looking for a long-term return on investment (cost of PPC), only working a four month summer season...then PT or less for the remaining eight months of the year. I would have loved to work with them, however during those eight months, bills still need to be paid. It would have been better if I was living with the folkes and/or had an ability to afford to live in YVR during Pasco's slow season. - Once again, congrats to those who got the call to work for this good company.

Another good company I've heard is Georgian. Have any of you had experiece with them? You know, typical stuff like sched, upgrades, bases, pay..etc.

I am trying to aim for companies with the possibility for long-term employment as well as growth. By that I mean, a good moral, decent schedule and paycheck, different aircraft to upgrade into when they feel I'm ready. That sort of thing.

As always, everyones' input is greatly appreciated!
Thank-you

Thanks rock the boat.

I've filled-out the online resume form with Flightexec and copied my resume in the large information box. Do you think this is good, or should I send one in as well?

So far, resumes have been sent to (emailed to) NCA, GGN, Voyageur, CMA, Flightexec, Thunder and the Bear.

Any other recommendations guys/gals?

This help is very much appreaciated.
