Well, I know most are broke, but this will be a fun event during the summer and of course, aviation related.

I gotta say, I really don't know what Red Bull was thinking with this one, but it's nuts- worse yet, it seems like the flying aspect (science) of the project is disregarded- as Red Bull puts it in their ad- something like 'the plane has to defy the laws of common sense and physics, but by some miracle, glide incredibly well' ...whoever came up with that is so dense that I just shake my head.
It looks like an interesting event, and a good opportunity to be hyped up on Red Bull for a few days, but for anyone who's serious about flying, it's just an embarassing sham.

I'm with Stinky on that one !
If you want to put a lot of thought/work into it and build the perfect glider ! Go ahead and you might win 7500$ !
And usually those kind of events by RedBull are free... to the public and contestants... so how often to you get something for free nowadays ?

see what I mean...RedBull wrote:f you don't live in BC, Red Bull will put money towards getting you and your flying machine to Vancouver for Flugtag. You'll receive the complete details once your application is accepted.
Will TC require a PPC on this one?Stinky wrote:I think you guys are overreacting a little. It's certainly not aviation related if youv'e seen one of these before.
It's not much more advanced or different than jumping a bicycle off of a ramp into a lake and flapping your arms.
Putting money into aviation is like wiping before you poop....it just don't make sense!

Pilots will have to put aside their careers and everything they know about flying on this one. If you have seen clips of this event on tv then you will know it is all about fun. Put some wings on a bike and get your buddies to push you into water 15 feet below trying to get as far as you can in the process. Maybe gut out an old sonic islander and try and win it, that's a funny looking plane.
The people who gave us golf and called it a game are the same people who gave us bagpipes and called it music
